Bible Spiritual Truth: Despite his riches, a man who does not have wisdom is like the beasts that perish. Psalm 49:21

Psalm 49 is a psalm that wisely reflects on a truth from the Bible, it does not matter if men are rich or poor, everyone in the end finds the same destiny, death makes all men equal, no one can live forever in the world:
"For all can see that the wise die,
that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
leaving their wealth to others" Psalm 49:10.
Although this teaching seems loaded with a certain pessimism, what the Psalm seeks is to invite men to spiritual reflection and to meditate about the meaning of human life. This teaching of the Book of Psalms has a deep spiritual meaning, riches are temporary and do not prepare the soul of man for that destiny that God has in store after death. And it is important to highlight this, because Christianity gave a very important answer to this approach with Jesus, the promise of eternal life, that life that once obtained cannot be lost.
This is why the psalm continues with the reflection:
"Do not be afraid when someone becomes rich
and the splendor of his house increases.
When he dies, he will take nothing with him;
his wealth will not accompany him below.
Although during his lifetime he considered himself blessed:
´They will praise me because I have done well,´
he will end up joining the company of his ancestors
who will never again see the light" Psalm 49:17-20.
The Psalm invites believers to understand with the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, and equanimity) the injustice that produces the inequality in the distribution of wealth. And the sapiential book, affirms with intelligence, that the wisdom is the true good that must be sought, because pride and greed distance men from the creator of the universe.
This is why the Psalm ends with a spiritual affirmation that should not be forgotten:
"Despite his riches,
a man who does not have wisdom
is like the beasts that perish" Psalm 49:21.
