Once upon a time, there was a social network called tsu. It was founded on a noble goal of allowing the user/subscriber to have a piece of the company 'pie'.
Not long after, as more users joined the platform, the posts therein started getting more and more spammy. Some users would use stolen content to get more traffic in the hope of earning more from the platform. Others would try to sign up as many people as possible as 'parents' in the platform.
Although there are other platforms which have come and gone, some still remain online and have some traction. A lot can be learnt from these ventures, time will tell if platforms like steemit will stand the test of time.
As Facebook launches its own crypto, maybe there would be another discovered way peer to peer sharing will be enhanced or encouraged without losing content value. Apparently, their model is more to do with enhancing payments or money transfer through their platform.
A special ingredient is required to keep people wanting to stay connected or in the case of steemit, create meaningful content.
