Were we not all children once? Just the other day? Childhood experiences still locked in our memories? Some good and some bad memories that have shaped who we are today?
Well it was Carl Sagan that said; "We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever"
And so it is that today's children are tomorrow's adults and the time will come when our time is over. But what about our children and their children? It is the seed that we sow today that will bear fruit tomorrow when it is our children's turn to lead.
For this is the chain sequence of life.
Then of course we have those without parents and many others that have no peer guidance. What about them? Are they tomorrow's beggars and the poor, or can something be done about them today in order to create better tomorrows for them.
This is where organizations like The Papillon Foundation come in. There are many opportunities to help and to teach the children, but let me tell you that it is not an easy job. The smaller charities like Papillon face much sacrifice and a constant struggle with support and finances.
But then, why do we do what we have been doing for the past 16 years? Well, we do what every adult should be doing. Creating better tomorrows for all. Education and love are mainstays of any progressive future and these are the seeds that we sow into young minds. As you can see on the photos, it is their first time on a real farm but I can guarantee you that they will never forget their first encounter with a horse. Or a ride behind a tractor in a trailer. Or the instructions about personal safety and many other learnings. They will also not forget the love that was shown to them and the new experiences will open their little minds to new wonders and possibilities.
The photos were taken by me at the Rietvlei Zoo Farm in Alberton, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Camera used was a Canon SX150
