Data regarding the death toll was stated by a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho. The number of buried victims was presented by the National SAR Agency.
"We estimate that there are more than 1,000 houses buried, so maybe more than 1,000 people are still missing," Yusuf Latif, Head of Public Relations for the National SAR Agency, M. Yusuf Latif, told AFP news agency on Friday (05/10).
Yusuf refers to the Balaroa housing complex which was affected by liquefaction after the earthquake-tsunami struck Palu, on 28 September 2018.
"However, we are still not sure because there is still a possibility that some people will be able to get out," he added.
Some estimate between 500, 600, 700 or 1,000 people.
How surely, we don't know yet ... so if based on reports or narrations of survivors, many (still missing). How many numbers (of course), we have not been able to convey, "explained Sutopo.
He added that BNPB will update data on the number of people who are still declared missing from time to time.
