I’ve been going back and watching my favorite Tucker clips since they fired him, and this one really stands out as his greatest ever segment. It was the Monday after the initial George Floyd riots. America was in shock, we had never seen such a mass display of chaos and lawlessness in the history of this country. All of it on the heels of our first ever national lockdown.
While most of us (not me) were dutifully locked in our homes, awaiting word that it’s okay to venture back into society, the people most politically aligned with those who pushed those measures were rioting in the streets. The moment was so absurd and unprecedented that most people didn’t know how to react, they just sort of froze.
Looking back, this segment and this moment did a lot to break me of the last vestiges of my “criminal justice reform” support and libertarian view on crime. When savages take over the streets and the police do nothing to stop it, defenseless people get hurt and killed.
It had never occurred to me that the whole anti police movement was building towards this moment of mob rule, and that the whole goal is to enable far worse people to be in charge of society. This moment made that point loud and clear.
We have a duty to protect the people in our society who cannot protect themselves. Stopping marauding savages from harming such people is the duty of government. It is perhaps governments only legitimate duty. If government cannot do that, or worse actively encourages the mob to harm defenseless people, we have become a society which cannot survive and will not survive.
Unleash the police on thugs like Jordan Neely so they never have a chance to hurt anyone in the first place. Bring back stop and frisk. Bring back broken windows policing. Bring back a society which defers to the police over the criminal and doesn’t assume that these absolute scumbags are some sort of moral actors.
Stop accepting that there are some parts of America where civilized people simply cannot go because it’s so dangerous. It’s disgusting that we accept that poor people in the inner city can just be terrorized by gangs of marauding thugs. Round those savages up and lock them up for good! Make poor neighborhoods safe again, which means moving thousands more of these criminals into prison.
