Tuf Voyaging's first short story - written, not in chronological order - takes place in a planet called Lyronica where 12 houses have their beasts fights against each other in a Coliseum, searching for honor, pride, reputation and money.
Even in this time and age we find repulsive those practices and in most countries there are laws against this behaviour when it comes to bullfighting, dog fights and cockfighting. There are still many places where this happens but the overall opinion about this is negative.
Despite this, thousands of years later according to the book's lore, this retrograde planet still has fights like this and they are still welcomed by everyone in that solar system, so much that the whole planet survives thanks to the money brought by people from other planets.
This short story called "A best for Norn" is about this cross fighting but also about the morals of animals being bred to fight and die and how Haviland Tuf deals with this kind of people.
