How to wreck a turbo...

This poor unsuspecting customer came in for diagnostics. White smoke, Low Power and loud whining noise.

Upon initial inspection we find that someone has blocked off the turbo waste-gate with a bolt. This means no turbo boost control and the turbo basically boosted itself to bits.

Picture 1 with the bolt is the bad picture

Picture 2 we have put things back to normal BUT it's too late. Turbo damaged.

Whilst the shaft surprisingly feels ok and the impellor looks ok, there is no boost and a horrible noise coming from the turbo when revved up.

Further investigation this has had the turbo repaired previously for $300....... Not sure what was done for that but no turbo gets a proper repair for 300 bucks.
