I was exploring a shallow lake and nearly stepped on this guy. He was so covered in mud i barely noticed he was there by my feet.
I was able to get close enough to his head for this shot.

I remember my dad prodding one with a boat oar when I was a kid and it bit the oar and wouldnt let go. He was able to carry it away from the area where we were swimming and just laid the oar down. When he went back for it later the turtle was gone.
Yours looks like a really big one, so I imagine it is pretty old!
