In normal condition, hardware reserved memory usually look like this :

But on some occasion, hardware reserved memory can increase to 1 or 2 or 8 GB or more. This condition will make half or more of your ram become unusable. So, what's the cause and how to fix this problem?

From my experienced, the cause of this problem was when I changed my processor thermal paste and when I installed new ram to my motherboard. But some people may experience this problem with different cause.

If you experienced this problem, there's a way to fix it, so you can use all your ram capacity again.

Here is the way to fix it :

  • Run "Regedit" (Type in "Regedit" in search after clicking Windows Key)
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlDSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
  • Find "ClearPageFileAtShutdown" and double click
  • Type in 1 and press enter
  • Double click "ClearPageFileAtShutdown", type in 2 and press enter
  • Double click "ClearPageFileAtShutdown", type in 0 and press enter
  • Shutdown computer (Don't restart as this doesn't work)
  • Turn on computer and you should have full use of of the computers RAM

I hope this tips can help you.

Thanks for the info.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

But on some occassion, hardware reserved memory can increase to 1 or 2 or 8 GB or more.
It should be occasion instead of occassion.

Thanks.
