Protect your Account! - My experience as a newbie

It's an opportunity to be on Steemit and it takes some time and precise work to get to the top. It's not a big deal when you have passion for writing articles with great content and sharing very useful information. But you may have a problem if your account is not protected! It's quite like leaving your cash sticking out of your pocket while walking on a busy road.

I experienced a hard time when one of my posts started losing its rewards. It's quite alarming to see this knowing that the contents are original and informative. To make things worse, I wasn't flagged by anyone. It happened to for two days before I realized that I was being hacked!

You don't need too much to get your account protected. Here are some tips on getting your Steemit account protected (as used by me).

Change your password.

After opening your Steemit account, you're given a password which you can use to access your account. This password, as safe as it is does not guarantee you from getting hacked! Simply click on "change password" tab on your profile options, type the old password and then click "generate password". Re-enter the generated password. Make sure you tick "I Understand That Steemit Cannot Recover Lost Passwords" and
"I Have Securely Saved My Generated Password" when you are through. This worked for me, I bet it'll help you as well.

Remove your Password from your computer and mobile devices

Steemit password is a bit complicated and you may find it hard to memorize, that's not a problem. Write it on a paper or a book that is ALWAYS with you. DO NOT leave your password anywhere on your devices not even in your email, it's prone to hack.

Always Log Out

Logging out is not an easy thing when you are using a Google browser. Irrespective of this, make sure you log out when you are done. A hacker can use it to his advantage when you don't log out!
