Ten years ago today was the first Tuttle of 2009. I only know this because it was so quiet, being 2nd January. So I was sitting with Debbie Davies and perhaps one other person (can't remember who) in the ICA, when Vinay Gupta bundled in for the first time wearing a full length yellow oilskin and sou'wester (rain and wind were forecast). I remember thinking he talked like someone from a Cory Doctorow/Douglas Coupland/Charlie Stross mashup and that he had clearly just arrived from the future.
COINCIDENTALLY AND UNBEKNOWNST TO EITHER OF US AT THE TIME (my lawers insist that I say that!) the very next day, the Bitcoin genesis block was created.
Man, 2009 was a weird one. Back then it seemed like just making our own media was a revolutionary enough act to keep us interested for another ten years. If you'd told me then that someone, somewhere was creating a something, a cryptographically enforced digital currency and that we'd both be immersed in the eco-system that had arisen around it ten years later, I'd have been nonplussed to say the least.
By the end of the year, we had done a cool bit of consulting and got the keys to the Centre for Creative Collaboration. Feels a bit like we're ready for another sprint of a year like that to me.
Let's see.

A decade ago was a very different world. Whether it's better now is up for discussion :)
