RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 Episode 4 Recap and Thoughts

RuPaul’s Drag Race Episode 4 was an interesting one. We are starting to getting a better understanding of what each queen brings to the table and we are definitely starting to see a few queens emerge as favorites. This week was all about fashion, right up a few of our queens alley.

We started out with a really weird mini challenge today, save the bees through dance. Each queen ahd 20 minutes to transform into a bee and then dance. Yeah it was about as weird as you can imagine. Each queen ended up with 10-15 seconds to show off their moves. In the end Gigi rose to the top and took home the $2,500 prize.

From here we launched into our maxi challenge, all about fashion. The queens all needed to prepare 3 runway looks, 1 made entirely on the spot, all about balls. That's right we are having The Ball Ball!

It was pretty clear that our queens had very different levels of abilities when it came to design and fashion. This challenge was very much a great one for queens like Nikki and Gigi. They are very much fashion queens and did fantastic in this challenge. Then we have a few other queens, like Brita, Rock and Aiden that really struggled.

Our first look was Lady Ballers. The low lights were Widow, Heidi and Jaida for me. They either had low effort looks or just totally ignored the challenge. The stand outs here were Aiden and Gigi. Aiden had her best look of the season so far and Gigi just kind of crushed everything today.

Next up we had Basketball Wives. Not sure this category really fit with the rest of the theme. Just wear a really posh dress and succeed. Gigi, Nikki and Jaida had the top looks here. Nikki had this fantastic ostrich feather outfit that I really liked. Gigi came down the runway in a perfectly tailored snakeskin look. Jaida had this crazy burgundy look that was really great. The clear bottom here was Aiden. Her look was cheap and out of place here.

Finally we got to see the looks that each of our queens made out of balls in the work room. These looks were all over the map. We had Rock M. Sakura in a tornado of balls. Then we had Brita in the worst pineapple of all time. Then we had Jan in this cool futuristic blue look that was just great and Gigi in this cool handmade dress with a really cool use of the balls added on. And then Jaida stopped the show with this crazy bubble bath look.

In the end our top queens of the day were Gigi, Nikki and Jaida. Gigi really excelled in all three looks and she takes home another win for the day and adds another $5,000 to her winnings.

The bottom must have been super tight today. Brita, Rock and Aiden were the bottom three. I think Aiden escaped solely based on her first look of the day. Rock M. and Brita are headed to lip sync for their lives. I felt bad for Rock M. having to lip sync in that enormous dress she created for herself and in the end it's want costs her a chance at being America's next drag super star. Brita barely survived here and even with Rock wasting a bunch of time tearing part of her dress off, I think she still almost came back to send Brita packing. Rock M. Sakura is our second queen headed home.
