Steemit's Favorite TV Shows! - Submit your pickssteemCreated with Sketch.

in tv •  8 years ago  (edited)

This is the next entry in the Steemit's Favorite series, following Steemit's Favorite Movies!. It's pretty simple, this is a good old fashioned popularity poll.

How to participate

All you need to do is write a comment with your Top 10 TV shows of all time. It can be fiction or documentary, mini-series or sitcoms. Anything, really. No films though.

You could submit a minimum of 5 picks or a maximum of 50, ranked or unranked, but 10 is recommended. Please mention whether your list is ranked or unranked.

100% of all liquid rewards earned from this post will be equally distributed to all commenters. Participation rewards!

The Process

Comments will be tallied for the next 48 hours till 23rd Mar 12 PM UTC. The top TV shows list will then be announced on 24th Mar. It could be a Top 5, 10 or a Top 50 - just depends on how many samples we get. For example, for the Movies list there were enough samples only for a Top 7. Let's hope for more participation this time!

For unranked lists, each entry will receive a weight of 1 up to 10 entries. Beyond that, each entry will be diluted - each user will only have 10 points. This is why a Top 10 is recommended. Ranked lists will be weighted accordingly so the first entry is 10x the last entry. E.g. for a top 10, #1 will be 2; #5 will be 1 and #10 will be 0.2.

Feel free to DM me on Steemit.chat if you would like your entry to be anonymous.

There you go! Comment your list away!

PS: I powered up 100% by mistake. Silly me. Not to worry, I'll buy some Steem for distributing participation rewards.

Sort Order:

Ooh, tough one. Need to dredge my memorybank. Mine are unordered

Fawlty Towers
Doctor Who
Horizon (UK documentaries)
Tomorrow's World (not the recent version)
Connections (with James Burke)
Black Books (UK sitcom)
Timeless (recent US drama)
Sherlock
Blue Peter
Family Guy

Oooh yeah! Doctor Who is awesome.

Ah, I love your list. So many favourites that almost made my list. Thanks, entered.

  1. Dad's Army
  2. Fawlty Towers
  3. Life on Earth (David Attenborough)
  4. Lovejoy
  5. The Muppets

One more, please :) Need a Top 5.

That's my childhood there, although Lovejoy was a bit later

Yes, that's it. Those are the ones that come to mind now, most of the others might well have been garbage. I watched Dad's Army again recently on YouTube and found it just as entertaining, but whenever I see a clip of Morecambe and Wise, I cringe with embarrassment for having once found it hilarious. Poor Eric.

A lot of 70s TV was terrible. Lots of racist, sexist nonsense, but a few gems. I was struggling to remember what I loved back then

Haha, I'll never tire of it. Thanks, added your picks.

Here it is:
(unranked)

Seinfeld
Sopranos
Lost
Game of Thrones
Prison Break
Twin Peaks
Life on Earth (documentary)
Cosmos (documentary)
Breaking Bad
X-Files

My top 5 are probably on your list. Good choices.

It's not an easy choice. I had to leave some behind in order to keep only 10.
:)

Thanks, done!

Need a clarification - is that the Carl Sagan Cosmos or the new Neil Tyson one?

Carl Sagan's.
I like both but that vangelis track and Carl's careful and slow word pronounciation is unbeatable.

I agree! I wish they would remaster Carl Sagan's with CGI animations etc that made the new one so good!

currently:
billions
bojack horseman
rick n morty
bates motel

Need one more, minimum of 5 :)

"currently" is no valid entry :-)

  1. The Walking Dead
  2. Game of Thrones
  3. Westworld
  4. Sherlock (BBC)
  5. House of Cards

Got it! I assumed it's ranked.

Oh my bad. That was unranked. This one's ranked:

Band of Brothers
Winds of War
Keeping up Appearances
Yes Prime Minister
Miss Marple
Fawlty Towers
Through The Keyhole
Cooking with Gary Rhodes

Appreciate the opportunity to participate.
Cheers.

Thanks! Which Sherlock Holmes is that? There are literally a dozen adaptations!

Also, I assume you mean Agatha Christie's Poirot.

Thank you for your reply and attention to detail @liberosist.

Apologies for sloppiness when it is for a poll, no less ^_^.....yes...you are correct the Agatha Christie series for Poirot .

With regard to ....Sherlock Holmes....The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes featuring Jeremy Brett.

Cheers.

I'm located in the United States, so my show picks will reflect that.

Clearly, you're a comedy buff! Need two clarifications - The Office UK or US? And either pick one for #10 or I'll count that as 11 entries total.

Updated! :)

Cheers!

aand Cosmos.

Thanks! Is that the new Cosmos or the Carl Sagan one?

The new one! I've heard the Carl Sagan one is really good too, though. :)

Yes, it's fantastic. The animations look very dated though, as you'd expect! There's also some stuff missing about dark matter, genomics etc; we have learned a lot since the 80s.

Indeed! The whole show was so fascinating to me who usually isn't all too into science. I think it was a really good start for many curious people out there!

If you would like to delve into something a bit more in-depth and just as entertaining, check out Brian Cox's shows. Especially the Wonders series. They seem like the logical next step from Cosmos :)

Ranked:
Doctor Who
Star Trek
X Files
Big Bang Theory
Misfits
Supernatural
Ripper Street
Sherlock
Legion
Torchwood

Westworld

Unranked

Friends
Dr Who
LOST
Game Of Thrones
That 70s Show
Detectorists
Q.I.
Narcos
True Detective (Season 1)
Mad Men

Got it! I like how you added Season 1 to True Detective. I'll just count it as True Detective, though you could argue Season 1 was it's own mini-series.

Season 1 was SO GOOD, Season 2 was disappointing. But yeah I guess it'll just count as 'True Detective' :)

Ranked:

  1. Scandal
  2. Walking Dead
  3. The Blacklist
  4. Games of Thrones
  5. The Originals
  6. The Mentalist
  7. Sex and The City
  8. Prison Break
  9. Lie To Me
  10. The Exorcist
  11. Stranger Things

  13. Alias

There are others though. But these are the tv shows that I could probably re-watch again.

Thanks! Yes, that's a good criteria - shows that you would re-watch.

Un ranked

  • 90210
  • Silicon Valley
  • 24
  • House of Cards
  • Sherlock
  • Big Bang Theory
  • Family Guy
  • White Collar

Couldn't make it to 10 😂

Thanks! Either you are a snob or you don't watch much TV :)

Lol. I am hyper selective of the things I watch

A bit of both, then :)

I really like these two:

  • Game of Thrones
  • Vikings
And for the more no-brainer part, shamelessly:
  • NCIS (both the normal part and the los angeles one, but let's count them as one)
  • Arrow (I like comics)
  • Flash (I said I like comics)

Thanks, done!

Louie
Louie FX
Physics of the Impossible
Mind, Body and Kick Ass Moves
N'ajustez pas votre sécheuse
Le Studio
La fin du monde est à 7 heures
La petite vie
Les bleus poudre
Robin & Stella

Thanks! I assume you mean Louie (on FX) and Lucky Louie.

I'm afraid I don't expect many more entries for those French language shows :) Maybe when Steemit grows.

I mean Louie and Louie FX. I thought you were right at first but then I remembered about Lucky Louie which I haven't seen all the episodes. Louie and Louie FX are two different shows by Louis CK.

I agree I don't expect many French Canadian to pick up on my list but I don't watch series so I didn't had any other answers and some day data mining is going to pick up on those and make sense of all that has been said on Steem.

Of recent years, CSI. Quite sad it ended but all good things have too.
More recent, CSI Cyber
Of the past, Star Trek Next Generation, Friends, MacGyver.

We need at least 5 picks :)

Updated after more thoughts.

That'll do!

  1. The big bang theory
  2. Scrubs
  3. Muppet show
  4. Gute Zeiten - schlechte Zeiten (TV Germany)
  5. Star Trek
  6. The Flintstones

Thanks! I assume that's ranked?

Yes. Since I entered steemit I don't have much time anymore for watching TV :-)

Haha, someone else said exactly that. Steemit is a good replacement for TV drama :)

(unranked)
Big Bang
Mr.Robot
Fringe
Forever
X-Files

Done!

In no particular order from my childhood to now: The Wonder Years, Fringe, McGuyver, The Simpsons, The X-Files, A-Team, and a couple of the dramas I have seen in Japan: Saiko No Rikon and Hungry

Thanks, entered :)

Unranked:
Metalocalypse
X-files
La Femme Nikita
Sherlock
Breaking Bad
Vikings
The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau (documentary)
Supersense (documentary)
Lenore, the cute little dead girl
Xena, the warrior princess
Luther

Thanks!

I know you love Game of Thrones, but we'll need 4 more :) Minimum top 5.

PS: That's one of my favourite shots in the whole of the series too!

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

ish!!!! the only show I watch nowadays is @Steemit ;)
No time for that anymore, hell I barely have time to watch a movie! Steemit takes up a lot of my time plus other businesses I'm running from home.
Great post though ;)

I don't blame you, no dearth of drama on Steemit :)

Good job, see you next time in Promoted! ;)

What is this "TV" thing?

Netflix and Amazon Prime count too :)

Seinfeld
M A S H
All In the Family
Taxi
The Daily Show
The Simpsons
Louie
30 Rock
Scrubs
Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In (really, this show...so ahead of its time)

(I left off a lot of the series we've been watching on HBO and Netflix which I love ...like Peaky Blinders, Homeland, House of Cards, Girls, and others..., I guess in the end, the older you get, the more tv shows are possibly favorites, so my list is generally from longer ago)

OH, and I left off Arrested Development. Oh, and The Twilight Zone! and Barney Miller! hmmmm, this list making is tough.

My list:
1.Big bang theory
2.X-files
3.Lie to me
4.Sherlock
5.Breaking Bad
