#7 TV shows: The Walking Dead - Wake up your fears!

Oh yeah baby, today I am talking about a big fat TV Show, one of the big stars of today shows: The Walking Dead.

Zombies, living dead that is something I would not have been fan of a few years ago now. But, god I love zombies now!!! :) This star TV Show began late October 2010 on AMC.
There are a lot of « main » actors on this show, but the story follows Rick Grimes, interpreted by Andrew Lincoln, who wakes up from a coma only to discover that the whole population was devastated by an epidemicy unknown who turn human into living dead, called « walkers ». Well many names depending the group of people they encountered through their all adventure.

After finally finding his family, he will soon become the « leader » of a group of survivors from Atlanta. This group is faced to a new post apocalyptic world. They are alone against walkers, against other groups of survivors, and for most of them even more dangerous than walkers.

You will soon see, walkers, as their name tell you, walk… These zombies are not fast, but they never give up, always going for the food, well the human flesh, missing a leg, both, an arm or just having a head actually, they are living to eat your flesh!

A big part of the story takes place in Atlanta and his neighborhood, for most of the first seasons. Then we can see them intending to rally the capital and the story continues in other zones like Alexandria in Virginia.

Today we are at season 7, and the number 8 has already been signed so hurrah :)
The Walking Dead has became the most viewed cable Tv Show from all time, followed by more than 17.3 millions of live viewer at each new episode. That is the world record for a cable show with a non sport event on cable TV, just that…

Well I already gave you a synopsis, there are so many things to tell about this Show, you have to watch it. And well it might be gore, there might be a lot of blood, viscera, brains, bones, flesh… Well you still want to see the next one. Some of the scene are close to what you can call real horror, you look at the images as if it is really happening, right here, right now. It is very very well done, realized and produced. The musics, the lights the actors, the scenes, puts you right inside the story all along, right between the actors. They become your friends, they become your survivors buddies, brothers and sisters. But be aware… This is zombie story in an apocalyptic world, don’t you attach too much to characters, just an advice among others ;)

Concerning the actors, oh my god, there are a lot of them I want to talk about. But I am going to talk about whom who appear the most during the 7 seasons, and the ones I appreciate the most.

Andrew Lincoln, aka Rick

Well as I said before, he is kind of the hero of the whole show. Everything began with him, and he is still alive after 7 seasons… That tells you a lot. He is the leader with no doubts, even though sometimes some other want to take his place, he always end up being the boss, people just follow him. He is a former sheriff, and you see him a lot in the first seasons with his former uniform, hat and gun. He is the classical definition of a hero, intending all he can to save his own, but well, living in an apocalyptical world give you scars, with which he has more and more difficulties to handle. His kindness, become toughness, his sense of justice becomes a sense a survival.

Chandler Riggs, aka Carl Grimes, Rick’s son

He is the young boy, who become, maybe too quickly, a young man. You will see the evolution of a young kid, in a hostile environment. Obliged to grow and become a man too quickly, he will suffer many, many tough moments which makes him a man before time. I won’t spoil these moments, but he becomes a central character in this show. As an actor, this young boy is really impressive. Nominated for « young artist awards » in 2012 and 2013, he is really talented, and you will see a lot more of him in the next years.

Norman Reedus, Alias Daryl Dixon

He is one of my favorite characters in the show. He is a tough guy, a cowboy, a hunter, a survivor. But despite all we can see, he adapts very well and very quickly to the life in group. And even more, he is a major asset in the survival of Rick’s group. This american actor is renown mainly for two roles, this one and his role un the Boondocks Saints in 1999. But he deserves some more credits. In The Walking dead he plays a solitary redneck hunter at perfection, and he will gain your love and affection episodes after episodes, one footstep after another, you’ll see ;)

Melissa McBride, Carol Peletier

It is that type of character that makes you love this show. You will see her going from the loving, caring mother, to the cold blooded woman ready to do anything to protect her beloved ones. It is even sometimes hard to understand her some times, but you know that she does all of it out of love.

Danai Gurira, the one and only Michonne

You will remember her, you can’t miss her, she is the one with the sword… Well a katana to be precise. The first scene she appears on will tell you the character in a few words. Imagine a woman, defending herself with a sword and carrying around two zombies with a chain so that she can walk amongst them without any problems. Yeah she is a badass, no doubt!

Steven Yeun, how could I not talk about Glenn ?!?!

Last but not least in this enormous list of actors, Steven Yeun, interpreting Glenn, one of the major character in The Walking Dead Show. You will absolutely love him. He is the one saving at the very very beginning saving Rick from a certain death and launching the whole series. Former pizza delivery boy, he will soon become a very important help in the Rick’s survivor group. You will be amazed by his ability to escape from impossible situations.

Well to conclude, The Walking dead is an unmasking TV Show like there are a few today. You will either love it or hate it, but I am guessing for the first option.
It is adapted from a comic book, and if you are eager to see what will happen in advance to the group, you can always read the book, but it will spoil your watching experience.
