It’s time to get on the hype train. I liked season 1, but I didn’t love it in terms of really caring and being excited by the show. It was just a bit more than OK. I LOVED this season. I don’t have time for binge watching, but even though I leave home for work for like 13 hours a day, I still watched an episode everyday even when I felt super tired. It was so good that if I had time to binge watch it, I would have.
Season 1 really helped this season. We know the characters, what they are like, their friendships and hardships and this season builds on it wisely.
Also, apparently Noah Schnapp (Will) is a really really great actor. There is awards buzz going around his performance this season. I hope he can make the jump out of this show, once it is done, to the big screen. We barley saw him last season, but he gets plenty of screen time in this one. And what amazing screen time it is. Last season he was an absent focus of the show, now he is a very present and disturbing presence in the show. The way he portrayed this character and its darker aspects is nothing short than brilliant.
David Harbour (Jim Hopper) is a brilliant actor. Soon we will see that brilliance in the Hellboy remake. He is just really good. Also, his character is very not stereotypical. He is one of the best detectives out there, even when dealing with stuff he doesn’t even understands. His relationships with children however, needs a lot of work. Which is good, because we don’t like having perfect character. We need tension is needed.
Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) also nailed it again. She’s a fabulous actress. Also, Joyce Byers is an amazing mother. Talk about great parenting skills while dealing with the impossible.
Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven crushed it again. She was really good in the first season, but this season really let her character grow. Although an entire episode just for the character growth felt a little shoehorned, it was great seeing her character actually learn a few things about life. Also, the semi-makeover that she got just really emphasized how really badass her character is on the inside.
Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) doesn’t have a lot of screen time, but his connection with Eleven is always present. Although not really understood.
Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson is just adorable. Dustin is just so freaking positive and stupid that it’s really great. So many bad choices and decisions that he made, but he can always get away with it because the power of his personality compels everyone. Also, he gets a new team due that is both surprising and works really well surprisingly.
Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair did an incredible job. He really stood out as a character with a lot of inner strength, loyal to his friends, but he also knows when to let go.
Joe Keery as Steve Harrington was so great, that a lot of people view this character as this season’s favorite character. It’s hard to believe how much his character has changed and not changed at the same time. From a total a total asshole, to someone who deserve a medal of honor by the end of season 2. Like really.
That’s why there is a new asshole in town to spice things up, Dacre Montgomery as Billy Hargrove. I can’t believe that someone agreed to have this look, and also pulls it off so great. He is the new bad boy of this season, but even he has some redeeming qualities. And did I mention great acting? You can sense emotions radiating from his eyes without any lines of dialogue. He is one to watch out for. There are already rumors that he will play the lead role in the Nightwing movie, or at least he probably auditioned for the role.
Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers is the same as last season, but also not. I can’t wait to see him in New-Mutants based on his performance in this show. Jonathan is the same excellent older brother and friend from season 1, but he apparently stopped being a creepy stalker and decided to become a regular member of society. Sort of.
Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler always looks torn and confused. She didn’t get a lot to work with this season. Just one plotline that was good, but I felt that it was done more to please the viewers rather than serve the plot.
Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield. She did a great job with her character, but her character is problematic. She fit in this show perfectly and at times she served as a really good representation of geek girls, and also how they always seemed to be outnumbered. But I didn’t like her anger and other issues sometimes being represented as positive. However, considering that the little kids, well, almost teenagers of this show, also act occasionally in not the best way, she fits right in.
Sean Astin as Bob Newby (he didn’t get a poster). Great acting, terrible character. How do you not see when you are not welcomed? Or how can you make such mistakes? Also, he felt more like a plot device than anything else. Bob deserved more.
The general plot of this season was really great. I know I a lot of people didn’t like episode 7 and I understand. It felt terribly generic, x-men style, but it was necessary for Eleven to evolve, and for us to appreciate how not generic the rest of the show is. The small divided plots from the beginning of the season converged really really well. The characters were great and likeable. The interaction between them felt so real and ordinary in a way. The part of their ordinary lives just really help strength the supernatural part of the season. I really couldn’t see some of the plot twists coming. Also, the so many homages to 80s movies were really great. The soundtrack was great. Each episode ended on a cliffhanger that always kept you on edge. I feel like watching the first season payed off just now.
If you didn’t feel the hype in season 1, you will definitely feel it now.

Nice recap. I liken season 2 to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in how it really let the character interactions shine since the cast has already been introduced and developed.
I actually liked Bob’s character and my least favorite episode was the “Eleven” episode as it did feel a bit more cliche, and was a bit jarring in its change of tone.
Paul Reiser had a standout performance for me too. Well acted and the story arc had me guessing at his true intentions and character for quite a while.
I started off watching one episode a night, 1 through 3 (with a night off for Thor!), responsibly stopping to go to bed each night. But on Tuesday I had a hellish workday, and though it seems counterintuitive, I was just too tired to stop watching! I didn’t have the willpower to say no, and binged the last 5 episodes until 3 or 4 in the morning!

There is something about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that I just didn't really like. I didn't like what they did with Drax for example, he went from funny to simply embarrassing to watch.
The Eleven episode was episode 7 which a lot of people did not like. There were aspects about Bob that I liked, but I just didn't like the character in general, nobody felt connected to him and he seemed like he is there just to move the plot along.
Yeah, Paul Reiser was great, but too small of a role. I think we always second guess him because of those that came before him. Also the actor just brings even more 80s vibe to the show.
Wow. It's not counterintuitive at all. I watched an episode per day even when it left me less than 6 hours to sleep at night.
