What a not great start for a season. I had high hopes after the ending of the previous season which promised so many great conflicts, script and personal issues. However, the plot just feels so incoherent and ridicules at times in this episode, that I couldn’t help but feel a sharp contrast.
Even though we can see that it’s been months since the end of the previous season, not everyone is acting like it. I could have ignored it if the rest of the episode was interesting enough or just entertaining. However, there was one thing weighing the entire episode down and that is the birth scene. It was just so terrible, so illogical, so ridicules that for the first time since I started watching the show I felt that a man was writing it and that a woman’s perspective was terribly missing. Like seriously, that is not how giving birth works. It was almost painful to watch in a cringy way.
The mystery of the inner circle would have been interesting if it wasn’t for the events at the beginning of the episode. After that, the entire mystery seems rather pointless.
Reed and Lauren Strucker feel like the only two bright spots in the episode. Reed finally seems to be getting a plot of his own that has nothing to do with his family. Lauren’s way of coping with the new situation seems very realistic and makes me like her character more than I did before. Kate is still just mostly an annoying character.
For now, I am disappointed by this episode, but still intrigued to see what will happen next.
I give it 6.5/10
