I'm constantly confused at the changes the showrunners of this series make to the source material. It is either like they hate the source material or never looked the source material. It is even worse than the Witcher series in that regard. I don't know how you make a Halo series boring.
I will say the second season was a lot better and more interesting than the first season. It isn't awful, but it is thoroughly bizarre if you have any understanding of what was being adapted for television.
And oftentimes I'd chalk this up to budget constraints, technical limitations, or intellectual property barriers. But I don't know if any of those things are the issue here. When the show wants to be great it has flourishes of great stuff. They are just few and far between.
