After being nominated for this Tv Show Challenge (also known as the challenge to have the longest tag allowed by Steem, #TVShowWayBackChallenge started by @saffisara) by @c0ff33a, I got to thinking about the shows that I liked when I was a kid. This was a little tricky, as I often have difficulty what happened yesterday, let along what happened further back in time....

However, there was one show (acutally 2, but I'll save the other for tomorrow), that did stick in my mind...

Monkey Magic

As a kid, I was always interested in many things (still am...), but I remember having lots of books about all sorts of mythologies from different countries and cultures. One of the biggest legends, was the legend of the monk that was based around the "Journey to the West". I had always thought that it was part of the Chinese mythology, but now that I'm researching this, it appears that it was a great Chinese Classical novel written during the 16th century Ming dynasty!

Is there anyone that grew up in the 1980/90's that didn't know this show? Monkey Magic was the show that everyone watched when I was at primary school. We all ran around the playground doing the cloud summoning move and pretending to scream around on clouds and doing martial arts!

The story is based around the pilgrimage of Tripitaka the monk, whom Monkey must protect as he Journeys to the West (heh?) to India to fetch some magical holy scriptures. On the way, they are joined by Sandy, Pigsy and Horse. For quite ome time, this was my after-school TV show, I just loved it so much! The show ran for two long seasons, and now I have a craving to start them off again!

I think recently, someone has tried to make a remake of the series, but I think I will be sticking to my nostalgia! Although, there was a computer game that was a really good take on the legend.
