in twitter •  7 years ago

In a report published on Tuesday, the social networking site Twitter reported the deletion of some 290,000 people on its website as part of the efforts of the Internet giant in its war on extremist content, which calls for hatred and extremism. Twitter also announced the mechanisms of this process.

In its Transparency Report, Twitter reported that of the 290,000 accounts deleted on its social networking site, 30 percent were deleted before any tweets were made, while 95 percent of those accounts were deleted based on Twitter's anti-extremist On hate, and accounts at the request of governments accounted for only 2 percent.

Thus, Twitter revealed that governments across the world submitted requests to close the accounts on Twitter estimated at 716 applications, which led to the closure of 5929 accounts, and the procedures Twitter is part of a broader package of measures aimed at preventing the expansion of terrorism and extremism on social networking sites and a coalition of companies Global technology and Facebook, Google, Twitter and others.

I understand terrorists were using Twitter to plan and promote their activity, so anything that makes it less easy for them is better than unlimited free speech. Whilst I hate the thought that innocent people might be caught in the crossfire, each act that is prevented saves lives.
