Twitter is messing it up but okay. During all these days the social network has been deleting journalists' accounts, however, this has not ended there, apparently, the company will introduce a new policy to its network that will prohibit the distribution of links belonging to other social networks, if , as you have read it.
The company justifies this action as a measure against the supposed free advertising of the competition on its social network. Posting links to competitors will be banned immediately, therefore Twitter will ban links that belong to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Tribel, Post, Nostr and Donald Trump's Truth Social.
Twitter does not want links from other social networks
With the introduction of this new policy, users will not be able to use their Twitter biography to link their other social networks, nor will they be able to post a tweet asking their followers to follow them on their other profiles.
Furthermore, the company also restricts the use of third-party aggregators like Linktree and Link.bio.
Twitter is also warning that users who try to circumvent the new policy through technical means, such as URL cloaking or other methods, could have their accounts suspended.
The company announced the decision and referred to its new policy, which is effective immediately:
We know that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will not provide free advertising on certain social networks. Allow more media platforms on Twitter.
In particular, accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms will be removed, as well as content containing links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and post.
For now, Twitter allows cross-posting of content from any social media platform; even posting a link or username on an unlisted social media platform is not a violation of this policy.
Luckily there is freedom of expression.
