They've done it again.
The headline event for UFC 213 was cancelled.
Why?
You can blame the fighter... But at the end of the day it's due to aggressive weight cutting one day before a world championship fight.
And it's not the first time this has happened!
Most of us fight fans were absolutely gutted when the Khabib Nurmagomedov fight was cancelled... Absolutely gutted!
The incentives for these athletes are wrong.
They're fighting at the highest level and they're looking at every aspect of their game to get an edge. Steroids was a big one in the past (now it seems, however, that USADA has improved that), twisted interpretations of the rules, mind games... The list goes on.
Nunes was trying to do an aggressive weight cut so that she could recover and be the bigger fighter on fight night. We all know it. It's not like she was just lazy!!!
It's too extreme and the human body revolts. Just because you've done it once before, doesn't mean you can do it again and again and again... without consequences.
So the result? A hugely unfair deal for Shevchenko, a shocker for the fans and loss of money and reputation for the UFC...
But the UFC come up with the rules!!
The solution: change the rules!
