UFC 219 Results: Cyborg retains featherweight belt in crushing win over Holm

in ufc •  7 years ago  (edited)

Holly Holm looked more restless than usual during the stare downs for this fight, but stayed composed for the first two rounds, picking her shots and proving to be surprisingly strong in the clinch against Cyborg. But Cyborg's powerful counter punches found a home again and again leaving Holm wobbled by the end of the 3rd round. Although Holm recovered amd stayed active for the rest of the bout, Cyborg's calm composure and powerful hands made the difference. Cyborg picked up a dominant unanimous decision.

If there was one notch missing from Cyborg's holster, it was her lack of wins over quality opponents. With that being no longer the case, Cyborg falls into that rare category of fighter who has no clear equal going into 2018.

Other results from the main card:

The Undefeated Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov ran through Edson Barboza's leg kicks and body shots to score an early take-down to completely maul Barboza with ground-and-pound. Barboza looked worse for wear the rest of the fight, succumbing to Khabib's clinch work against the cage and continued take downs. Dominant unanimous for Nurmagomedov.

Carlos Condit's unorthodox muay thai proved ineffective as Neil Magny was quick to catch kicks and counter with straight rights and use Greco-Roman takedowns off the cage. Unanimous Decision win for Neil Magny

Cynthia Calvillo's smothered former strawweight champ Carla Esparza with her grappling take downs and ground strikes early on, but Esparza rallied in rounds 2 and 3 with constant leg kicks and straight rights to earn a close decision.

Dan Hooker vs Marc Diakiese's lightweight bout started out slow on the feet with Hooker using faints to keep Diakiese off-time. In round 3, Diakiese shot in for a take down but it was snubbed by a sneaky guillotine choke.
