McGregor is simply the most fascinating sports character to arrive on the scene since Ali. He has compared himself to 'Van Gogh' as he too is insane to his craft. The obsession is very real and ever present, he replays old fights and sequences down to every touch and breath. How could it have been improved or perfected. When alone in hotel rooms he can fit in the most basic of workouts which can consist of lowering his frame and centre of gravity to waddle around like a gorilla. One needs steady feet to finish an opponent on the ground .
McGregor doesn't have any great political agenda's or ideals beyond the earning dollars. His goals are to get rich and get out before the fight game eats him up. The fact that other fighters can't make ends meat on the roster doesn't concern him. It's dog eat dog in cage when it comes to the UFC. It's as if he has forgotten that it wasn't that long ago that McGregor didn't ' have a pot to piss in' . The UFC is coming under more pressure from the fighters who want their cut of the earnings. Professional athletes in other sports usually take 40 - 50% of the revenue whereas the UFC pays them a paltry 15%. This does not apply to McGregor who commands a share of the pay per view profits. It is a golden opportunity for McGregor to be cement his legacy and stand up for the slaves in this sport which is destined to be the boxing of the 21st century. To end the exploitation he would need to make people aware of what is going on and put pressure on the UFC to change the terms. The fighters at the bottom don't have a voice and are living pay cheque to pay cheque. So far there is nothing to suggest that McGregor will rise up and be a great abolitionist.
