Visiting Uganda Day 4

Day 4, 27.3.2018, Uganda/Mukono + Kampala
Today we went to Kampala, the capital city from Uganda. Kampala has 5-9 million citicens, that depends on the daytime and who counts them ;-)
Here is a Picture from the way to Kampala:

There is a lot of traffic (as in every big city), but different to Germany the cars are full and here are much more taxies than other cars. And even more motorbikes, filled up with people or stuff.
Our bus stopped at a souvenier market.

We have had two hours for buying stuff. I don't like shopping. I just watched, but everyone (most young nice women) said to me" Hello! Come in and watch." I always said "no" but this kept on repeating. There are hundreds of small shops.

So I had to decide to keep on saying "no" or to do something else.
I went to a man who had a smartphone and asked him to sit next to him. I asked him if he knows, that it is possible to send and recieve money via smartphone without a fee (the bank takes usually 2,5 % transaction fee). He didn't know. I said, that he could also earn money with it. So we started to talk about Steemit. First he and the women next to us were very sceptical. But I told them, that they don't need to bring in money. An interessting discussion began. We talked about Uganda and Germany. It turned out, that the man I was talking to (Ali), has studied IT Security and so he already knew about cryptocurrency. Perhaps he reads this now (greetings ;-)) and will also join this great opportunity for Uganda.
For lunch we went to an Italian restaurant in a big shopping mall.
In the mall you can buy everything, you can get in Germany too, but the price is up to three times higher.

32000 Uganda Schilling is roughly 7,5 €.
To compare: a normal worker in Uganda gets 10000 Uganda Schiling a day. That's 2,5 €.
This means, he has to work 3 days to buy one glass of Nutella.
Another interesting thing is, that if you want to travel 300 km in Uganda, you take a bus, pay the price of one working day and you need 5 hours.
If you want to travel in Germany 500 km, you take a train, pay the price of a German working day and you need 5 hours.
Poverty and decadence is here very close. Here you see a picture of people digging in the rubbish for some food:

And direct next to this is a golf place:

Here you can see the trash eaters: Marabus. One of the few birds, that don't die on plastic.

The next days I will be offline for the safari.

Your welcome to Uganda @achimmertens. A huge difference between Uganda and Germany I see. Visit as many areas as you can.. Uganda gets more interesting when you get on the side of the features, particularly the Eastern and Western parts of the country. I hope you make it a point to reach there before you return back to Germany.

Thank you for sharing your experience in Uganda! Hope we can get your next post soon as well:-) Have a safe travel, especially safari!

Does it feel any different between the north and south side of the equator? :-D.

It looks like an interesting place to visit, have a good time!
