Head coach Sabri Lamouchi has moved quickly to provide cover for the right-back position, after Tendayi Darikwa suffered a serious knee injury in training last week.
Jenkinson agreed a three-year contract at the City Ground for an undisclosed free from Premier League giants Arsenal.
He goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s visit to Leeds United at Elland Road.
Now, Jenkinson came through the ranks at Charlton Athletic, but moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2011.
During his eight years with the Gunners, Jenkinson made 70 appearances.
This included performing in the Champions and Europa League, and also represented England at youth level.
Last term, Jenkinson played eight times for Arsenal, his last appearance coming in the 3-2 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace in April.
Jenkinson played just eight times for the Gunners last term but has featured regularly in pre-season.
The defender is available for around £5million but it is unclear whether Forest would attempt to take him on a loan basis instead.
