My bumpy very rough and dangerous journey upcountry to Kotido...

in uganda •  6 years ago

It started on a Thursday evening, late in the night. I didnt want to sleep off till morning so I left my place at 11:23 pm. Travelling in Uganda always requires good timing especially if you come from an area that is monopolised by one bus company.
I got to the roadside and made a few phone calls telling people I was on my way. Had a snack or two(am not the type to eat in the middle of my journey).
A bus that I was hoping to use went past and I dint bother stopping it. Then another and ...I thought I would use another bus company upto Soroti at least then connect to Kotido with the monopoly. It went past too. It was now close to 2:00 am. I was desperate for anything at this point so boarded a not so popular one, but hey I wanted to get home.
All was good untill the engine was suddenly switched off and my drowsiness left me. The bus had a mechanical problem. They made close to three such stops before we were on our way again. At this point it was clearly 6:00 am.
The rest of the journey to Soroti was peaceful. They even made it a point to entertain us with a movie- Blood Diamond(what a classic). I almost dint want the bus to get to Soroti but it did.
The bus I would have used had left but I dint mind that. I walked over to a certain car stop where I was sure I would get a means of travel to Kotido. Fortunely for me, there was already one on its way and I happily waited for it. A police escort truck(toyota landcruiser). I obviously pictured one with cushioned leather seats. I was totally wrong, not even a seat in the back. Plus that guy drove like it was a car chase. To sum it for you, I got a dozen bruises and wished for nothing else but that journey on that vehicle. Good thing is we made it before the bus that left me behind and I made it in one peace too.
Thank God.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

All was good untill the engine was suddenly switched off and my drowsiness left me.
It should be until instead of untill.

Thank you for that correction @grammarnazi
