The Museum of Vintage Computers, Video Gaming
& Micro Electronics
The Micro Museum is the home for their own unique collection of vintage personal computers, calculators, games and micro electronics. They've been collecting for more than 40 years - finding, buying and rescuing old equipment wherever they could. Now, in their retirement, the Museum fulfills their dreams of being able to share our knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Visitors will find devices from the early 20th to the beginning of the 21st Century. For 2017, we have on show computers, calculators, games consoles and handhelds, computing accessories, toys, toy robots, tiny televisions, phones, cameras and some of our electronic Star Wars pieces. At the heart of the collection are the displays of devices from the 1970s and 80s, that important period when rapid technological developments brought computers into the lives of non-specialist, home users.
If you are from a similar generation to us, we invite you to Indulge in some nostalgia as you see if you can find your first computer, console or gadget in our collection.
Younger visitors can discover the old equipment that led to the development of the devices we all take for granted today. The very youngest aren't left out and can try looking for the tech-named toys hidden in the displays or play with the electronic toys available just for them.
With hundreds of items on display at any one time, there is a lot to see. And we love to chat to our visitors about their early computing experiences and share our stories and a laugh at the quirks of the old equipment.
They're completely independent and they run the Museum by themselves, with help from volunteers, so they're always on hand to greet our visitors. Their aim is to ensure that everyone has a warm welcome and a great time.
The Micro Museum is the "winner of the Pride in Thanet Tourism Award 2015" and "Highly Commended Certificate 2016" and "Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence 2016 and 2017"

Fascinating!! It is amazing how computers have become so much part of our lives. I can go back further than you, as in the late 60's I worked in the DHSS in London, where we had one of the very first computers installed. It needed a special floor, was very sensitive, kept going wrong, and cost 1 million pounds!!. I have written a recent blog about it.
Good luck with your museum.
