The fortified Carmelite monastery of Berdychiv, Ukraine. Originally the site of a castle of the Tyszkiewicz magnate family of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16th century. The Carmelite monastery would be built in 1627.
During the Soviet period it was converted into a prison and cinema. Religious services were restored in 1991.
It is a major pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics in the region. In 1998, Pope John Paul II crowned an icon of Mary that resides in the shrine.
