Why is Congress dragging feet on aid to Ukraine.


Earlier tonight, I had a conversation with one of my Ukrainian friends.

He asked why Congress is dragging its feet on aid to Ukraine, while conditions at the front deteriorate. I explained the political manoeuvring on this as best as I could.

Some of it is a matter of politicians being the weasels most of them are, but even more is the product of the special evil of the Trump-era GOP. Either way, I could not help feeling embarrassed for the US as I tried to make sense of this pile of dogshit for him.

The issue should be a no-brainer, and the attempt to link it to "border security" is ridiculous and stupid, notwithstanding the fact it resonates with much of the GOP base.

In a just world, House Speaker Mike Johnson (who fully understands the urgency of the issue), should be much more ashamed than I am, for his refusal to bring this up for a vote. But the man is shameless, as are all too many high-ranking pols.

The Democratic base has some pathologies of its own. That, however, in no way excuses the Republicans.
