Ukraine EU deal could end the war but..

€54B is more than enough to end the war in Ukraine in a week, while sustaining (and even inflicting) fewer casualties than a normal week of the current attrition.

But that’s for a timely, modern, combined arms package, including fighter aircraft, attack helicopters, mobile air defenses, and precision weapons in even moderate numbers (maybe $15B worth).

The West is committed to not providing these weapons, choosing instead to deplete its 155mm stocks, and hand over obsolete armor in a drip-campaign designed to wear out public support, and attrit Ukrainian forces.

The €54B will probably be spent building new factories for 155mm shells, small arms, and light armored vehicles, a small number of which will slowly be provided to Ukraine, with no effect.

You people will then pat each other on the back, or pretend that this is a massive and unsustainable commitment responsible for all manner of harm, depending on whether you’re more of a Chamberlain (DemSoc/SocDem/Dem/Labor/“center”-leftist) or more of a Mosely (Euro”skeptic,” isolationist, MAGA, Labor-conservative, conservative, Putinista).
