"Ukrainian Military Begins Using U.S.-Provided Cluster Bombs," U.S. Official

A senior U.S. White House official has revealed that the Ukrainian military has begun using cluster bombs with high lethal capability, which the Biden administration decided to provide to Ukraine, against Russian troops.

The U.S. Biden administration, in response to a request from Ukraine, which is continuing its reversal offensive, decided to provide Ukraine with highly lethal cluster bombs, in which a large number of small bombs are dispersed from a single bomb, and handed them over to Ukraine.

On April 20, White House Coordinator for Strategic and Public Affairs Kirby told reporters that the cluster bombs had been delivered to the battlefield and that Ukrainian forces had begun using them against Russian troops.

The Ukrainian military is using cluster bombs appropriately and effectively, and this is affecting the defensive posture of the Russian military," Kirby said, indicating that the cluster bombs are effective in attacking the Russian military, which is defending itself by digging encirclements and other means.

There is an international treaty that prohibits the use of cluster bombs because some of them remain as unexploded ordnance and may cause damage to civilians, but the United States, Russia, and Ukraine have not joined the treaty.

The U.S. recognizes that the Russian military has already used cluster bombs on the battlefield, but Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on April 16, "If cluster bombs are used against us, we have the right to take the same measures.
