Have you experience being bullied at some stage in your life?
I've been dealing on this for several days already and I feel that it's time for me to vent out. I know that we cannot please everyone but I feel that a little kindness can go a long way, especially if you are at work.
I also understand that when you come to work, you meet different types of people. There are the happy go lucky, the smart, the friendly, the grumpy, the conceited, the self-righteous and among others.
I feel that I also need to let go of what I felt inside and I see that this is a good avenue since no one knows me.
Here it goes:
I was in the middle of my tasks when my seatmate Camille uttered that her Third Party Information Release for a client has been declined. It is important that it's cleared or approved to the fund manager so that we can get some client information and forward to the Financial Adviser. She was talking at our direction as we were seated in one aisle.
She said that there was no notifications or reasons why it was not approved, so she asked us. Out of the blue, I told her that based on my experiences, some are declined due to the signatures, name change or wrong address on file
She said sarcastically " I know that! I've been here for a year !".
Then Karen one of my teammates laughed at Camille and said " Madame!"
I was shocked, speechless and wasn't able to answer back. True, I'm a newbie. I've been with my work for almost 4 months and yeah, I don't know that much. But I tried to help in any way I can. I didn't expect she could say to me like that nor my colleagues are making fun out of the incident.
I was just silent. I went outside the room, headed to the loo, hid myself and cried out of desperation. It was an insult. It was bullying and I was hurt.
You wii be fine! Very typical reaction.
I was called the B word within two weeks of starting a job. I had that job for 32 years. Not to say it wasn't hard working with the these types of people but it is an unfortunate part of the work environment.
Just stick to your guns and typically they are gone before you know it. Move on to bully elsewhere.
And I learned two things...a job is often not worth , nor does it require, the emotional investment we develop. That is really something we use to help us get to work and do a good job. Self motivating. Secondly, don't ever be the one who demeans the new person. That was you once.
I recently left a contract position because I was told not to think, just do. Really?

Thanks for your kind words @nananini . I didn't mind them after the incident. Never spoken to them since. I was told by my manager it's better not to fight back coz what they're saying reflects to the kind of people they are, not me. And she's indeed right. At the end of the day, we go home to be with our family, not for them.

Wow, a manager with experience and good advice.
Yep, the goal at the end of the day is enjoying your free time. Leave work at work. 8 hours a day is enough.
