#ULOG 5: BARANGAY'S SANTA CRUZAN

Every year, during the month of May, we have this celebration called “Santacruzan”. I guess on the other places like Manila, they call it “Sagada”. Santacruzan is the parade of people imitating the important people in the Catholic religion. It has been celebration for many decades now. In fact, I used to join this before when I was from being an angel, to bringing the symbols, to being a saint, to being a queen. I enjoyed joining it.

My grandmother used to be one of the organizers of this event. In fact, she was the one who provided the dresses of the saints and it is for free. I remember her working late hours before just to provide a new set of dresses of the saints and archangels. Even up until now, they are still using what my grandmother has made. I feel proud of her. She was a loyal Catholic devotee. Every time she hears us talking about other religion she would really be mad. That’s how loyal she is. I respect her disposition. But, I do believe that no religion can save us. It is only God that can save us from our sins.

Now that I have a son, I wanted him to experience what I have experienced as well. Last year, we made him an angel. This year, we decided not to let him join the Santacruzan because he had just been healed from his fever. But then he finds out and cried because he wanted to be an angel. So, I made a suit for him and used his wings before. He was so happy while my husband and I were changing his clothes and let him wore his wings.

Next year, will be more prepared for him becoming an angel.
