Ulog #019 : JoelTess' Organic Farm in Bayawan, Negros Oriental, Philippines Part 2

Noticeable at the entrance of the farm is a sign saying "Chemical-free zone". Well OK. It went out of my mind seconds after.

As we hiked up to get to the farm, upon entering, the terrain gently sloped down to reach a few structures on both sides of the path. Searching for the owner Kuya Jotham, seeing the variety of fruit trees in rows after rows hugging that side of the hill was sort of heavenly. It was very easy to be tempted to go and harvest every fruit within reach.

But we didn't do any of that. I wished.

Fancy living here for a month?

Organic farming anyone?

Well, you need to take the course for a month...

20180619_092528.jpg

... and learn from this man...

20180619_092829.jpg

... in his classroom.

Unknown to us, JoelTess Farm at present is also teaching Organic Farming accredited by TESDA. This is an example of the FREE SCHOOLING of short courses being funded by the government here in the Philippines. Accomodation is provided for free so anyone who is interested can just contact their facebook page here.

Does this wall tell you that Kuya Jotham started his farm 17 years ago? Yes, his vision took that long to materialise and kudos to his determination to make it happen. I felt his struggles in having the vision with no support. For a farmer way back then, seeing him and his farm now was not just one mountain to have overcome.

I do believe that all things start in having a vision and one person can bring a CHANGE.

An eco-destination in Bayawan

For now, the students' accomodation is a bigger structure at the entrance, this to accomodate students which the maximum is about 40 I think. In the future, there are already plans to build a lot of tree houses similar to the above photo. Accordingly, for the students as well as the future tourists that would want to stay there.

Part of the vision is also to create an eco-destination in Bayawan.

Oyster mushroom picking anyone?

20180619_091310.jpg20180619_091158.jpg

According to Kuya Jotham, right now, they can only supply about 50 kg. of mushrooms for Bayawan and other orders from nearby towns, so perhaps more mushroom producers are needed for the demand.

Races at the Farm?

Now, remember my previous post about the LIGIRON RACE that was also held here at the farm? The same course will also be used for bicycle races being organised by one of Kuya Jotham's son.

The starting point.

Will it be a Ligiron or a BAMBOO bike race that you wanna join in? Also, has anyone heard of MOKUSAKU?

More of that on Part 3.

All images are mine, taken with my Samsung Galaxy S7.

Oyster mushrooms??!! Parang nagpalpitate ako bigla (in an exciting way) sa nakita ko. These days you can rarely see people who would dedicate their lives to farming / gardening let alone do it "the organic way" so kudos talaga kay Kuya Jotham.

If I come to Philippines , can I visit you??
Nice farm

You can visit this farm when it accepts tourists in it...unless you want to join the races that's being held there☺

beautiful farm and organic pa .#farming = No hunger.. I missed Philippines.

Come home when you can...the country is changing but it will take some time. Join the collective that want to change not just the political environment, but also the economic and cultural aspects.

Indeed alot of changes .i must watch to be more updated what's going on in our country. I'm at the aquaculture industry and trying to more improve it even i'm still away.Your right I must join to push changes even small good step contribution Count. I'm planning to go home next year , and thinking what can i contribute to our fellow specially for the young .

Sounds nice. There's loads but what is it that you wanna do? When no one is there ti support you..your passion pushes you forward.

I like more on Visual arts education,, that makes them busy in the weekends . I hope I can make it ,but I will try to find out how it will work. Have a relax sunday.

Awesome! Go for it..we have an artist @aalagenesis who is planning to make some colouring books. Dunno how that can help but perhaps collaborations will help?

:) thanks for recommending our project Ms Imma. I really hope we could release this by August 26 . We're still collecting artworks from different artists :) our fellow Steemkan @thrishy already gave one of her line arts

yw.. @flabbergast-art was asking if he can make @walkofhope drawings..have you seen his artwork?

It was such a nice read. I also like Organic Farming which is so healthy knowing no chemicals are getting into the food. I think Kuya Joel's farm would be great as an eco-destination to promote his passion.

Thank you. Yes it will be I can see it.
What i want to promote too is the organic farming it is offering for free from Tesda.
Free accomodation pa.

Pls. can you promote and spread the word in Cebu? Dock in Dumaguete, then 2 hrs sa Ceres bus to Bayawan. Just contact their facebook page. Thanks.

Wow what an amazing place. I would love to spend a month training and learning how to grow veg correctly. I have an extremely bad track record with plants they dont survive. I think my apartment gets extremes of sunlight and shade so its not the ideal setup. Very cool initiative though!

The way it sounds..the problem is your place, so there's hope for you😁 Am afraid the free course is only for the locals here. You can visit Bayawan.

Great capture! I love the atmosphere present in all pictures.

Thank you..that's very nice of you.

my pleasure :))

Awesome... I'd like to enroll
