Ulog #021 : "Atis", better known as Sugar-apple or Sweetsop

The technique when buying these fruits is to chose the lightest green color that you can find, still firm when checking it, still UNRIPE. More often than not, they ripened the following day or the next. Buy them ripe if you plan on eating them on the same day, bit if not, then better not. Just like with most fruits, over-riped ones tend to get tiny worms inside. How they get there, I have no idea.

I know a friend who found some worms when she's almost done eating another fruit!

Breakfast anyone?

One of my sisters bought them the other day and as most of them ripened overnight, we have been trying to finish eating them from yesterday. There's just a couple now that are not ripe. Perhaps later today if am lucky.

Accordingly, the Spanish Galleons brought these fruits to the Philippines, so is it safe to say that these came from Europe? Although I saw some in Barcelona before, it is also known in Portugal. As for a lot of common plants in the Philippines today, a lot of similar plants are scattered in Lisbon.

Known with many names, it can be found worldwide. Known as atis in the Philippines, the distinction from other varieties is its' rough and broken outer skin. Compared to what we call its' cousin "ANONAS", who have a smooth skin. The atis is much sweeter than anonas. Although atis is mostly dark green to lighter green, anonas can have green, yellow and orange in color when ripe.

Bon appetit!

The benefits

I just love them and has never bothered before to check what's in it, vitamins-wise so it came as a surprise to read the list.

The highest content is Vitamin C, and the next is Manganese. Athough Magnesium is listed, what is it rich of is Vitamin B, not as high as Vit. C, but this fruit have Vits. B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B9. Although they have different functions, B6 have the strongest punch, and Vit. B12 (not included to the list content).

As a high enery fruit, it also have IRON, POTASSIUM and PHOSPHOROUS. Keep in mind though that ALCOHOL lessens Vit. B absorption.

All images are mine, taken with my Samsung Galaxy S7.

This is also one of my favorite fruits! It's very yummy. I usually buy them ripe because I love to eat them on the same day.

You take nice photos of them. Thanks for sharing the benefits of this fruit with us. ;)

Did you ever plant some of the seeds? that'll be the day when you get to pick them in your own backyard☺

No, I haven't ever tried to plant them yet because I have no space at present. But, if I have a new large garden in future, I would love to plant them so that I can pick them from my own garden.... Um! That would be really great! ;)

Oh well..our future looks greener with all those fruits we all want to pick on our own gardens😂 Let's settle in buying for now😊

Yeah! It'll be great if our future looks greener with all those fruits from our gardens, I totally agree! ;))

So much water with less land😁 Goodluck to your future garden @tangmo!

Thanks so much for your good wish for me..... Yeah! I do really hope to have a beautiful garden in very near future. ;)
