Teaching in a public school gives more employment security than teaching in a private school. This is an undeniable fact that no one can argue. Once you're hired in a public school, you automatically become an employee of the government, thus, you are entitled to security of tenure. Barring any legal actions or unfortunate circumstances that may cause you to be removed or to be retired from teaching, you'll probably become a public teacher till the day of your retirement. Well, except for some bug private schools, public system offers more benefit package when it comes to salary than those of the other private schools. These reasons become the motivation of the teaching degree graduates to seek a teaching position in the public schools. Even some of those who are currently teaching in private schools still try their luck and apply in the public school system.
While this may be an exciting journey to venture with, being hired in a public school is not that easy. You need to undergo some nerve wracking procedures to get hired. First, you need to submit your application to the Department of Education of the division where you are in, next, you need to wait for the schedule of interview, prepare for a teaching demonstration and you need to take an English proficiency exam. After going through all the process, an applicant must wait for the release of the rank list of teacher-applicants.
Just last Friday, March 22, 2019, a bunch of aspiring teacher-applicants, under the Division of Lapu-Lapu City, went on an interview with the different school heads and different DepEd personnel. The venue was at Pajo National High School. The interview started at 8 o'clock in the morning and lasted past 6 in the evening.
Teaching demonstration as the next step in applying for a teaching position started last Monday, March 25, 2019, on the same venue. The applicants are being rated by the different supervisors, school heads and other expert teachers. Aspiring teacher-applicants were dressed in their best formal attire bringing with them their different instructional materials. This process, perhaps, is the most nerve wracking part in the entire hiring process that one of the applicants did not make it through because of a sudden loss of bowel movement. She said in an interview that it was due to extreme anxiety for the teaching demonstration that she felt sick and needed to move her demonstration schedule the next day.
The teaching demonstration is till going on and will last till Friday, March 29, 2019.
God bless, aspiring teachers!
