ULOG #4 : Thank God...I Can Still See The Small Wonders Of Nature, Smell The Scent Of The Flowers And Hear The Birds Singing !!!

Thank God, I am still alive and kicking!!!

The doctor said last week that I had to come with an empty stomach when I undergo an abdominal sonography (ultrasound). Unfortunately, my schedule today had been set at 11:50 AM. Oh my, a long time of waiting.... but before that, I was able to make a blood test that had something to do with the ultrasound examination. The medical check-up was just part of my annual check-up.

Last year, I had colonoscopy and I sure was glad that everything was ok, I´ve seen everything on the monitor and it reassured me somehow that everything was ok. This year, I had to make a series of clinical tests including a mammography and so far the results were good. I spent the whole morning today at the Medical Center in our area with an empty stomach, I was not allowed to drink even water. I was of course very hungry but the waiting was worth it. I could see from the face of the doctor that his examination went well because he would have spent more time with the ultrasound had he noticed something else. I asked him if everything was ok and he said I would have to wait when he finally gets to see the images and next week I would know the results.

The health system in Austria is one of the best systems in the world. Even the homeless are taken care of healthwise by the State. If they could spend so much money for the refugees, they would not let the homeless suffer. As for the insured population, he/she will get the best medical care. All treatments are taken care of by the Social Security System as well as medicines that are subsidized, those that are to be bought at the pharmacy on prescriptions.

I always think that preventive medicine is essential since our family has a long cancer history. Three brothers , may Dad, three uncles and numerous aunts suffered and died from cancer. But, one can never be assured not to get it, even if one does not have a cancer history in the family. I could not help but think of Paul McCartney´s wife Linda, who was a great advocate of eating healthy food, she was a vegan...and yet she died from breast cancer. Even if you don´t smoke you can still have lung cancer. You may become a victim of the environment no matter how careful you are. When it hits you, it will come.

I thank God for letting me see the nature at its best with my eyes and to be able to smell the scents of flowers, pick and arrange wildflowers for my home.
