Do you know the origin story of Shangri-La?

This July my sister and I had a trip in Yunnan province, which is on the east of Tibet. We were so near to the famous Shangri-La.

It is also the first time that I heard of the origin story of "Shangri-La" from our guide. I can't help sharing it with all of you, my dear readers.

It is said that an American came to a part of Yunnan regions a few decades ago. He fell in love with this place, and had lived there for 40 years until his death.

Later one of his disciples--a British man followed his tracks in Yunnan and wrote a famous novel "Lost Horizen". In his book, he called that place in Yunnan as "Shangri-La" according to its local Tibetan pronunciation since he didn't know its real Chinese name was Diqing 迪庆 at that time.

But now Chinese government has changed its official name into Shangri-La, too.

I don't know how to describe the scenary of that place where I was mesmerised. For my part, it is rather a beautiful place with green cascades and pleasant climate. On top of that, there is the passion of an American soul permeating its landscape.
