E-commerce is booming in the SEA (Southeast Asia) region
and top online shopping app SHOPEE is at the forefront riding the big waves! 🌊

In the Philippines, Shopee launched a nationwide e-commerce caravan called the Shopee University to boost awareness of e-commerce and their innovative shopping platform.

Yesterday was the Bacolod leg of the caravan and I'm very happy that I was able to attend the event with my groupmates from Negros Online Workers - an informal team of digital workers based here in Occidental Negros.

Most of us arrived early and we were treated to video presentations of Shopee and it's many features & benefits for both buyers and sellers.

While the speakers were still busy preparing, we took the chance to do a little photo-op. 😄

Shopee University was a comprehensive introduction to E-commerce and online shopping, combining all 3 course tracks that ranged from basic to advanced in a single gathering.

The event was opened by the very energetic Shopee Friend Chester 👦 who caught our attention with rib-cracking jokes and gimmicks.😂 Right off the bat, early birds were given prizes and more were given away in the App Quiz that followed where participants had to show how to use the Shopee App such as how to open the wallet, add products, check the FAQ and other ways to navigate the app. After the fun and games, business development manager Alec 👩 discussed the basics and history of Shopee that first started as a mobile application and later launched a website to cover a wider reach.

Freebies were given away while discussion carried on until the floor was passed again to Chester who is also the community & engagement manager for Shopee.

We knew immediately it was another round of fun and this time you have to be the first to raise your smartphone to answer the quiz! 🤳

Although I didn't win any prizes it was fun to participate and broadened my knowledge about online shopping and company's background and operations.

Shopee has absolutely No Commission Deductions on your sales and features FREE Shipping for purchases Php 500.00 and above and for orders Php 250.00 to Php 499.00, Shopee will shoulder 30% of the shipping fee! 🚢This is great because it's a big incentive for buyers and sellers don't have to worry about logistics because Shopee has integrated courier services into the platform, it's a win-win! 😃 Do take note that Shopee recently put a Php 100.00 cap on the shipping fee that they will shoulder.

Also, there are a few things though that cannot be sold on the platform such as:

• Cars
• House & Lot
• Pets or animals
• Arms & weapons (stun guns included)
• Counterfeit products
• Alcohol

We were then introduced to the exclusive AvelxMatteo limited edition jeans line that was collaborated by designer Avel Bacudio and celebrity Matteo Guidecelli available only in the Shopee app and website. Other local media celebrity exclusives can also be found on the platform, from comedian Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis's cosmetics to personal care items from Kris Aquino and Rated-K maven Korina Sanchez.

Shopee University also gave tips and advice on how to maximize earnings and reach more customers by touching a little bit on digital and social media marketing. Based on data they received, they had more female buyers and age group with the most activity were 20-35. So taking the info we can find products that are needed and hotly selling for the female 20-35 demographic. That's just a few of the things that the presenters shared.

The e-commerce caravan closed with a Free Dinner Buffet that quickly became my favorite part of the event, hehehe. 😄😋 I was surprised at the spread served; they had fine food like angus beef belly, hickory smoked ribs & various pasta, western appetizers, soups and fruity cream desserts! 🥩🍖🍝🍰

After dinner we were given our Shopee University "diplomas" and my groupmates and I sauntered out of the venue with our minds and stomachs close to bursting with knowledge and beef carvings, lol. It was a very enjoyable evening and when I got home I immediately created my Shopee account and I'll be sharing my products for sale very soon. 😊
