So often Scott is the photographer between the two of us. I tend to be the scout; the one who finds the moments and places in time for him to capture with his Sony A6000. However, there are times I feel a need to take photos. Unfortunately, I take photos with my Sony A5100 so rarely that I forget how what buttons do what on it. I have been trying to be better at this, but it is just so much easier to take photos using my Samsung Galaxy 9.

I decided one Saturday morning during the Cherry Street Farmers’ Market it was time to pull out my actual camera and practice taking photos. Normally, I meet my daughter Amber at the coffeeshop just feet from my apartment, but she was unable to walk the market with me this Saturday so I had no excuses; it was going to be a perfect morning to take photos and I really needed the practice.

Grabbing my fabric bags to put produce in and camera bag, I set out at just before sunrise to decide where would be the best place to start snapping photos of this magical event. Our local Cherry Street Farmers’ Market starts up every spring on the first Saturday of April and ends the third Saturday in October from 7:00 am until 11:30 am. The street for three blocks is shut off to traffic and people wonder about cheerfully. It is here the community comes together to purchases their weekly produce, samples the treats, and celebrate the beautiful Oklahoma mornings.

Our farmers’ market is not like what you will see in the movies or on television, it is only has four, maybe five vegetable vendors, maybe two or three artists, a couple of food trucks and a smattering of prepared food vendors. It is pretty small, but it is perfect for our square mile community. We all like it this way because most of the vendors know what each customer is looking for and they even know our names! Often my daughter will pick up my produce when I am not able to attend the market due to Scott and I traveling and the vendors know that she is mine and shopping for me. Yes, I do love our farmers’ market.

One of my favorite things about the Cherry Street Farmers’ Market is that there is live music being played every weekend. One weekend it will be the Falsey Twins who play the blues, another weekend the piano man will be banging on his upright piano (an actual wooden upright piano) while his wife belts out a ballad, and yet another weekend there will be an old-timey musician playing causing everyone to break out in shared song and dance. Everyone seems to enjoy the music, no matter the genre; they are extremely generous when they toss money in the bucket of appreciation.

Most importantly, the best thing you will find at this little Saturday farmers’ market are the people who have made it possible. There is so much work that goes into putting on such an event. Someone has to get up before 5:00 am, set up the closure signs, get vendor spots set up, take care of the city permits, and all the other things no one really sees as they wander through the market tasting, buying, and enjoying. They are amazing people who are dedicated to being on our little bit of heaven every Saturday from April until the middle of October no matter the weather. Yes, they are what makes this event so magical.

I was able to take so many wonderful photos that September morning while the morning light was still low and making everything golden. I am not able to tell you what my settings were on the camera, but I can tell you that it is days like this that get me excited about taking photos and maybe making someone smile. Even though the Cherry Street Farmers’ Market is gone for a short while, I can look back and remember the magical morning I had.

Thanks for spending time with me today,

I had to stop and read this when I saw Cherry Street Farmers market because we have a farmers market on Saturdays at the corner of Cherry Street and Main in our little nearby town in Texas. Love the farmers markets for sure. Thanks for sharing through #steemitbloggers.

Seems to be a common street name. I sure miss Texas.

Woow, what a nicely structured post! Btw why didn't you add 5th tag? Maybe #steemitworldmap? they also manually curate + you could add it on the map itself. I totally love the project. Just met one of the devs on Steemfest and those guys are legit..

and btw, if I was girl I'd totally fall in love with the guy in the yellow van :D It's quite hard to write this for me but he's hot as fuck hahhah :D

Dangit! I totally forgot to put that tag in! Love, love, love SteemIt World Map! I will have to take care of that!

Oh, my the Puffy Taco guy Ryan would blush! He's such a sweetheart! All of us secretly crush on him.

Haha hands away from the guy. He's reserved for me in case I turn homosexual in the future! :D

hahahahahahahahaha!!!

These are some pretty decent pics 😊
Sounds like back when I was a child and we loved in a small town where everybody knew everyone
Thank you for sharing your Farmers Market trip with us 😊

I think you already know you did a FANTASTIC job on capturing this and your writing brought right there.

Your framing and perspective are the best. great job! #steemitbloggers resteemed

Thank you. I give myself only so many times to push the button so I try hard to get the best photos I can. I know that's silly since I have a DSLR, but it keeps me in the once and done mind frame. Plus it keeps me out of the processing program!

Lovely pictures and great community feeling about that market place when everyone knows everyone! Looks like a fun morning you had :)

It was an amazing morning. I like getting there right as they open so I get the best produce and I get the best attention from all the vendors. They are wonderfully fun days.

That's a good idea, plus you get more choice as well!

It is definitely a wonderful feeling to know i beat everyone to it all. Haha

Goodmorning ren from My side of the world. I would have loved to have gone with you to the market. I love the photo of the paprikas/peppers but All photos are great My compliments dear. Here its a rainy day so maybe I can make done Nice ones today.
Love
Britt

I am using the post to make me feel better today. I am REALLY missing the market this morning.

You sound a bit like me - it's the luck of the draw with photos. Both on the phone and on the camera. Your market sounds a bit like ours, where I have a stall, but ours has lasts just over an hour and happens every week, rain or shine. Many locals get theri produce and supplies there. I just love it. And, of course, it's a good place to catch up with the gossip!

Oh, what do you have in your stall? My daughter is thinking of starting her bakery business with the market. I just love market days.

I sell traditional South African pastries, koeksisters (about which I must write.... ) and preserves, pates, cottage cheese (which I make) - and whatever I feel like doing - just a few odds and sods. It doesn't generate enough to keep the wolf from the door, but it's better than nothing. The challenge with markets is that you have to perservere to build custom. And acceptance. Especially in a small village. That's the hard part. To have realistic expectations, expect disappointments and to soldier on. Regardless. Especially if it's a passion. Here endeth the lesson. Hope it adds a decent 2c worth to the debate.

Oh, how I wish you were here!!!!
Ren

Loved spending time with you, Ren. I enjoyed wandering around your local farmers’ market and enjoying the vibrant colours, the sound of the musicians you brought to life with your words and photos, and generally taking a peek into your world. All in all your post was a delicious bite into the Cherry Street Market. Yum! 😘

Thank you so much. I love that you could hear the music!

I always enjoy going to the local farmer's market. We have something similar in my part of the town. Can really get fresh items at affordable prices

I just loved it. I can't wait for April!

Awesome work on the photos. I love it and I could almost feel the ambiance of the place.

Oh, thank you!

Really good photos, especially the girl with banjo

Thank you. I'm always so critical of my photos, feel Scott should get all the "ooo's" and "ahhh's" but he pushes me to do more.
Your comment is very appreciated.
Ren

Wanna say welcome to @steemitbloggers family once again! I hope you feel at home here with us and we're glad to have you part of this family. :)

Aw, thank you so much. I am feeling very welcomed here. I can't wait to get to know everyone better.

I particularly like the photo of the bell peppers. How cool!

#steemitbloggers

Thank you so much. I loved that they were so golden in hue. I do love sunrise photography!

I'm rarely up early enough to catch anything that spectacular, but when it happens, it sure is nice. :-D

Unfortunately, I am an early riser, no matter what time I go to bed. It definitely is not pleasant sometimes, but on that morning it was a perfect day.

My favorite is when I go to sleep just a little past dark and wake with the sun, but it's been years since I've been able to do that. When I lived outside it was easy! :-)

We have the same issue when we camp. However, I tend to wake up EARLY, hate being a morning person.

Awesome photos Ren. I too live in a one square mile town and we have a little farmers market here too but the local government is chasing people away by making it cost a fortune to rent a booth and then charging a percentage of what you make. I love little things like this and have to travel a couple of towns over to get to a good farmers market. I'll have to take pictures next time I go.

Its not really a 1 square mile town, its a neighbor. I like to think of it as a town through.

Crazy how greedy people get. Just let it happen! Allow people to do what's good for the community.

howdy there xcountytravelers! oh this looks like such a wonderful little market, I would be there every chance I could also! And this is in Oklahoma?
Great photos bytheway.

Thank you. Yes, Tulsa. It was such a pleasant year this year so it didn't get horribly hot. This made everyone in the neighborhood come out. It was wonderful.
Ren

howdy again xcountytravelers! well it made for a wonderful post too so great job!

Thanks.

Wait... I was like, "Cherry Street? We have a Cherry Street here! I bet htere are a lot of places like that." But then I saw Kilkenny's and realized that you were at "my" Cherry St! We spend a lot of time at CHOCS (Coffee House on Cherry St) for open mic nights!

Oh, my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE CHOCS!!!! Oh, we should definitely meet up on an Open Mic Night! I'm trying to get Scott to do something, but he isn't confident enough about his music.

Sweet!!!!!!
Ren

Absolutely! My daughter @abyni used to go every Wednesday to play and sing, until school started AND she got a job. I miss hearing her sing. We'll have to plan for a Wednesday night out again!

Most definitely!

Oh I just adore this post! I have such an affinity for my own local farmers market, so it makes my heart happy to see someone else with a similar experience. Those peppers are so stunning! I'm glad you were able to take the time to capture these moments to share with us.

#steemitbloggers

It really happy to see so many people that love their local markets. They were pretty delish too!
Ren

Cool!
So glad you finally posted these

I have been meaning to post them, but just have been so busy. Thank you.
Ren

I'm in love with Farmers' Markets. Great picture and outstanding emotions between the lines.

Oh, thank you.

What an absolutely beautiful post. I love farmers markets so very much and this is a gorgeous post sharing the best of this one! Love that you have live music every week!

Oh thank you so much. I love the music.

I can spot an Irish pub a mile away!

Well, when you come visit, let me know!

Great pictures and fantastic write up! Looks like a charming place to spend a Saturday. Thanks for sharing.

It was a wonderful morning. Thank you.
Ren

Hi Ren, I really think your photos are amazing.

The angle and the focus are good. But I am not a photographer. I only snap photos for fun.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

#steemitbloggers ❤️

Thank you, but you do not have to be a photographer to know what you like.
Ren

What a beautiful market you have. Ours is so very small that I am afraid it will disappear soon. there are many big Farmers Market in different areas in town, but close to home is extra special.

Thats how we feel about ours. My daughter and i use it as together time! Special place for sure.

Awesome shots miss ren!!! And you crack me up with your selfie shots! Hahahahahahahaha love it.. 😄😙

Id also want to take a walk in that cherry market of yours!! It always excite me everytime i see one.. its like im walking in heaven hahaha.. how weird is that..

I love all your captures of the people and the goodies.. candid pictures are always great to showcase! ❤

Its funny, I love taking the photos, but I have such a difficult time doing it with an actual camera. I am so comfortable with cell phone. I wonder why.

Some day, i hope we can share time together in a place such as this.

Well cameras especy Dslr are quite heavy!!! I dont like bringing them and hanging them in my neck all day.. gives me aches you know..

Mobilephones are more handy. Its easy to snap and easy to upload too hahahaha.. sure it does not give you the same resolution as the DSLRs but, you get the same satisfaction.. haha..

Yes someday i wished it too Miss Ren!

oh these are amazing photos!!!! you are quite the photographer!!!! I'm loving the angles that you shot these!

i love the one with the long legs hehehee but flowers are gorgeous too! love these street markets - always the coolest finds :)

Thank you. I just love the shadow selfie too. Thank you.

This looks like a wonderful little market, without too many large and imposing crowds! Fabulous! 😊

It was good until 9:30. Seems like everyone woke up and arrived at the same time.

Congratulations @xcountytravelers! This post was selected by the @steemitbloggers community as today's Rally Upvote Post :) It will also receive a complimentary upvote from @Appreciator throughout the course of the day!

Your photos are great! And your farmers market sounds very much like ours...even the music sounds similar!

I do love how we are all the same in those quirky ways. Oh, and thank you so much.
