Nature has been so generous in providing us everything - from fresh air, sceneries, and most of all - food.
Having brought up in a province and with a mom who likes cooking vegetable dishes (Proud Ilokano here and thank you so much mother I owe you everything!), I grew up to love eating dishes with veggies picked fresh from the backyard.
Now living and working abroad has made me miss these kind of food. Great thing Filipinos still find a way to plant these kind of vegetables in their backyard (called accomodation; that is if they are living in a villa-like location). I had so much enjoyed this flowers of squash along with its young leaves and malunggay stewed in anchovies sauce.
Now what they said is true that you learn to appreciate more of the simple things when you start missing them. And I truly miss everything in my home country. Besides my family, food is one of them.
