The barbers shop is a social point in each community where regardless of age or class people meet to have their hairs done. Today I went to get my hair cut and spent a long time there waiting in line. This barbers shop is located at the heart of a community called Alakaiha. This is a small community situated near the University of PortHarcourt, Nigeria which is well known for its vast student population. Most student that don't stay on campus rent apartments in this community and go to school daily from here.
This barbers clientele ranges from student to even the elderly people in the community. While on the queue I was lost in thought about how small businesses thrive in the dying Nigerian economy and how much profit these people make. I actually realized that this "barbershop", is one of the most lucrative business a small shop owner can handle with the least amount of stress. Although factors such as Location and Clientele are involved. In a student populated environment this business will blossom with not too much competition. Everyone needs a haircut. After moments of soliloquy, it was my turn to cut my hair and I took the chair and got my hair cut.
PS. This was before the cut.
