Amazing 3100 mile runners

in ultramarathon •  5 years ago  (edited)

I had a lousy day running today-struggled to put in a mediocre 5 miles. Yet while I'm thinking about my off day a group of 8 ultra runners are approaching the end of a 3100 mile odyssey. The Self-transcendence 3100 mile race is in its last week in NYC. These incredible runners have had to average over 52 miles a day MINIMUM in order to cover the distance in the time frame allowed. Through brutal heat waves, thunderstorms and up to 18 hour days. The clock never stopping, no mercy shown for any problems whether they be of the mind or body. The great Ashprihanal Aalto of Finland will finish sometime within the next day. Hopefully the rest will finish within the allotted time. So I'll put my crappy run today in the logbook with all my others. It wasn't good but it was good just to be "out there" where I could leave the day's worries behind.

Are you an ultrarunner?

Ran them years ago but now trying to get back into shape for them. Just not as easy as when I was younger but gonna try.

True 😀

With age comes the knowledge and experience. Or so they say. I still make the same and new stupid mistakes. Even after 30 years of experience.

As for the ultra runs. Nice and easy is the way. You don't have to speed them. It's not appropriate 😂
