Rewriting the Story

At Dether, our mission is to break barriers to cryptocurrency mass adoption for everyone, regardless of location, fiat currency, experience with cryptocurrency, language or access to a bank account. When we first launched Dether, our biggest concern was letting people know that we existed and getting them excited about our project. Our website focused on Dether’s first forays into the blockchain world, like information leading up to our token sale, and a detailed breakdown of everyone working on the project.

We needed people to believe in the project enough to talk about it with the friends, to share an article about us with their coworkers, and to consider getting DTH in order to stake it and become a seller in the future. Our visual conversation focused on the hardships of buying and selling crypto, while trying to break down as many elements of our project as possible.

Now that we’ve had a successful token sale, partnered with the likes of MakerDAO and Kleros, gotten to know our early-adopters, traveled the worldto meet Dether enthusiasts, released Dether for Shops, and been listed on exchanges like Bitfinex, it’s time to better shape our message.

Our new website design puts Dether’s technology at the forefront of the conversation, and is designed to engage our users from the minute they enter the site.

“The story now is all about promoting the power of Dether and understanding all the uses of the DTH token,” said Romain, our graphic designer.

A new feel: putting the Dether app at the forefront

The new website was built with our users in mind. Much like way our app is constructed, with options for buyers, sellers, and shops, the website is built in the same way.The redesigned landing page sets users up to start buying cryptocurrency as quickly possible, while using illustrations and mock-ups to guide the user through the three-step process. Placing the Dether Map on the landing page you know that you can find buyers or sellers in your area in no time at all. The landing page reflects the accessibility of Dether around the globe, by using flashing multiple currencies.Users will find sections for personal use, focusing on the Dether personal app:

A business section aimed at business who not only want to be listed on the Dether map, but who’d like to own a zone based on certain keywords or geographic features:

Users will find a dedicated section to obtaining a token license. This section of the website breaks down the use of the DTH token, and the details on obtaining it, all in an easy-to-understand format. Users can interact with the sliding scale of seller fees right away, highlighting the ease of use of the seller process, and how it can be perfectly tailored to the users’ needs as a seller.

The site features many linear graphics, helping to guide users through the seamless process of becoming a crypto buyer or seller.

Logo and logotype

No rebrand would be complete with a new logo. We believe that our new logo captures the fundamentals of Dether’s purpose.

“Our previous logo was trying to send several messages at once: decentralization, blockchain, exchange, people and places — it felt that the core of our message was being lost,” said Romain. “The new logo brings together two key ideas at the heart of Dether’s mission: location and interaction between users. Our goal is to break barriers and to make things simple, which is what this logo is.”

The logo combines the concept of geolocation, as the map and Dether services are all about peer-to-peer connection; the letter “D” reinforcing the Dether image; and a message bubble, which represents the communication between users in the Dether community. “Breaking barriers” refers to our mission of “breaking barriers to Ethereum mass adoption,” but also to the idea of breaking other barriers that prevent users from accessing blockchain technology: fiat currency barriers, language barriers, or location.

“This logo better captures the spirit of Dether, which is all about bringing people together around a common vision,” said Romain.

We have coloured the logo and site with shades of deep blue, suggesting stability and trust— two things that we want associated with Dether. There is also plenty of white space, reflecting openness, another one of our key principles. We wanted the overall site to be more harmonious and to flow easily between buyers, sellers, and shops.

Playful illustrations and real user personae

The new website features expressive illustrations. In each section, there’s a three-step illustration that guides users through the steps of becoming a crypto buyer, seller, or shop. Because the process of buying and selling crypto can seem overwhelming, we opted for simple images that feel familiar to the user. The motifs of a chat, a location point, and cash are easy to identify.

At the bottom of each page, you’ll see illustration of people on the move or at shopping. The illustrations reflect how Dether can be used in many modes of daily life.

Our user personae are inspired by real Dether users. The quotes are, locations, and jobs are all their own. We’ve used photographs and not illustrations to emphasize the fact that Dether is made for real people in everyday situations, all over the world. We’ve also included many real-world elements, such as press mentions and real map shots. Overall, we feel that this new website reflects not only Dether’s global potential, but also its focus on human interaction. The only way that mass adoption will become a reality is through making the process of buying and selling crypto easier, and we believe that our new website does just that.

And there’s more to come…

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be designing and bringing more elements to the new Dether identity. We are excited and thrilled that this new website and brand brings more value to the Dether ecosystem.

Super exciting elements will come during 2018, starting with Dether’s release!
