Unheard Voices: Bitcoin lifted me out of poverty

in unheardvoices •  8 years ago  (edited)

I am glad to present the first article of #unheardvoices, an initiative that tries to bring exposure to good articles that have gone unnoticed because they were written in a different language. You can read more about this segment here.

The year was 2014, I was broke as hell and needed to generate some extra revenue as quick as possible, I just found out my girlfriend was pregnant and I really didn't want to bring a child into poverty.

I kept hearing people talk about this new coin called Bitcoin, I decided to do some research and find out what it was all about. The more I read the more I was drawn to it, but how could I use this technology to make money?, I had no capital and couldn't even afford 0.1 BTC to try it out.

I started looking for help on the internet and I found two peer2peer lending sites that I thought could help me: loanbase and btcjam. I filled out the forms and completed my registration on both platforms. I first asked for a small amount of BTC on Loanbase.. I had no success, a big failure. With little hope I copy pasted my loan application on btcjam, to my surprise I managed to get funded and thats how my bitcoin adventure began.

Now that I had some Bitcoins I realized that I didn't really know what to do with them, I wasn't sure what to invest on and I was worried that I wasn't going to make profit to pay it back. I had a few alternatives: ZenMiner or LTCGear (wow, I am glad I didn't!), re-investing on other loans or some other scammy looking websites that promised to double your bitcoins … the only reasonable alternative was trading at LocalBitcoins.com

My rule was simple: sell high, buy low… pocket the difference. I did this without any sort of experience on the matter, I was completely self taught. The actual trading wasn't really hard but I had to deal with a few users who tried to scam me. I know now that I was an easy target since I was selling trough paypal, other users received my BTC and then claimed their credit card was unwillingly charged...oldest trick in the book. At one point they even froze my account until a dispute was resolved.

However I managed to overcome all the hurdles and after a year buying and selling I already had a good reputation and some loyal customers.

I can now say that Bitcoin has lifted me out of poverty and helped me trough the difficult situation my country is going trough. The fact that I was going to be a father gave me extra motivation to make my dreams come true. Bitcoin is not perfect but its a viable alternative for people in third world countries to make much needed extra income.

cool concept. i was thinking of starting my own series that recognizes great posts from 3 minnows a day that have earned less than $5. In a world where whale curation bots dominate, there's going to be a need for humans to recognize great posts from undiscovered talent.

Keep up the good work.

It's pretty amazing to live in a time where not just financing but financial trading tools freely available to everyone.

@luisucv34 that's awesome. I trade on Localbitcoins myself and make a little money. Another thing you can do is download Metatrader, get a bot (there are a couple nice ones for free) to follow cryptocurrency trends, and buy a newer currency when someone starts pumping it up. Then sell before they dump it. Just don't get greedy and try to triple your money, go for 30-40% profit on these kind of transactions.

thanks for your recommendation

Bot for trading? Can you recommend a source?

Sorry for the delay, i just saw this. On the Metatrader website they have a search tool for bots that work with the program. Some of them are priced, but a lot of them, including some of the better ones, are actually free. They were created by other crypto enthusiasts who don't mind spreading the wealth a bit. Don't expect to get rich, but when you hit a good trade here and there a couple times a week it adds up. One really easy way to make some quick cash is to have Metatrader watch multiple exchanges at the same time, and set your bot to purchase when one exchange is a good 10% lowe than another. then you transfer to the higher priced exchange, sell for a little less than "last" to move quickly, and pocket the difference.

The post it's great, but the phrase of the day is epic. Buen trabajo amigo @luisucv34

hola amigo gracias, y también gracias a @chitty por compartirla

I think the blockchain and Steemit have the power to change many lives which is what makes this so exciting. Think what we can do as a community.

Its great to be at a point where I can finally be happy for peoples success instead of jealous.

As I said in the original post, I really excited to see how this technology is really an alternative to finally we overcome poverty in the world, bit by bit we will succeed. With patience and effort I think we can bringing this more and more people, and even places of power. The attempt in australia with Flux, for example, to bring blockchain to parliament and make it work in a decentralized manner. Even the BitNation project sets an incredible precedent for how could a country under this technology could work. The future is great and the best is that we are part of it.

Felicidades de nuevo @luisucv34

Thats a great post @chitty
So happy for you and I hope you reap the benefits of Steemit.

bitcoin also helped me to be get rich :) And now I'm trying if I get success in steemit........

this idea about leveraging blockchain to provide a viable currency to the masses and providing opportunity really resonates with me. I've been volunteering for the past 6 months as a developer on Scotcoin http://scotcoinproject.com as a means to provide "national" crypto. we operate essentially as a charity (there's VERY little money we can actually use but hopefully steemit can help us change that) and intend to loan out vast swathes to business incubators and community projects, especially those dealing with food poverty because the only banks booming in Britain are food banks :(

I wish I could be like you but Im afraid of trading due to my experience with forex. Doing trades with forex without knowledge about how im going to do made me lost all the investment.
