I have a “million dollar question” and anyone brave or daring enough can be the first to answer! It’s surprisingly simple but thought-provoking and intriguing. Ready? Here it goes; you different or nah(no)? If you took the time to answer this “million dollar question”, something special just took place and you didn’t even know it. This question either provoked you to explore the qualities and/or characteristics that set you apart or you paused to gather an answer that, at the moment, is simply just not there. You may even have paused to ask someone close to you to answer the question. You realized you may not really know who you are. Fortunately, neither of those is such a bad place to be. How sway? Well, if you’re at the stage where you’re able to recognize your distinguishing qualities, you’re ahead of most and, probably unknowingly, you’re actually positioned for great success. However, if you just couldn’t answer this question that's ok too. You can now began to explore and discover yourself! When you discover who you are, then you can pinpoint what “makes you so special!” Either way you’re headed in the right direction.
“Marked off from others by some distinguishing quality” is how the Middle English defined the word special in the early 1300s. Even if your answer was nah (no), I believe everyone has something special about them. It’s just a matter of discovery.
There is an article written about LeBron James on why he is one of the most unique players in this era of the NBA. The author says his ability to play all five traditional positions and his speed; considering his height and weight are unique compared to the average player. Now whether James is your favorite player or not or whether you and I agree with the author or not; none of that matters. LeBron James holds the title of the best player in the NBA right now and has for a while. There must be something special about him that has brought him to where he is now.
Michelle Obama, our former 1st lady, went down in history as one of the most popular 1st ladies. In fact, her popularity often overshadowed that of her husbands, our beloved former President, Barack Obama. What made Michelle so special was not only that she was America’s first African American 1st lady, but also her ambition, her success and ability to connect people and with people. She was the only 1st lady to attend an Ivy League school and practice law. I could go on and on but since I didn’t write this post to talk about Michelle or LeBron; my question to you is, who are you and what makes you so special? What do you have that’s unique? What is that you do well? Successful people and businesses all over the world have been able to answer and master these questions. So much so, that even their bank accounts have become proof of what happens when you discover what “makes you special!” Success not only depends on things like hard-work and consistency, but success also depends on knowing who you are, what you do and how what you do differs from what others are doing?
I challenge every person reading this to take an adventure! An adventure into self-discovery and exploration. Traveling the world may be adventurous, but self-discovery is the best, most fulfilling adventure you will ever take. It leads to so much more! It places you in the right environments, around the right people and presents opportunities that, otherwise, would have never been presented. For someone reading this and thinking she’s talking to me, but where do I start? Well, I’ll leave you with this gold nugget; there’s a life already planned for you and the plan is to prosper you! (Jeremiah 29:11) You existed in the plan and the mind of God before you even existed in your mother’s womb. (Jeremiah 1:5) God formed you and He knew you long ago. We (the creation) pursue, seek after God (The Creator) and then, piece by piece, He reveals to us who we are and “What Makes Us So Special!”
