Will Puerto Rico ever become the 51st state?

in united •  7 years ago  (edited)

Recently there was a referendum on my beautiful island on whether it should become part of the United States .
The overwhelming majority chose statehood the possibility is about as likely as Donald Trump admitting he knows nothing about politics!
why?

  1. The voter turnout was just 23 %
2)The referendum even with a voter turnout of 100 % was..is non binding
even though the pro statehood groups sing and dance like statehood is right around the corner, the truth is far from that.
most of the 37 stars were added to the flag after being annexed.
Alaska and Hawaii and its islands were given legal authority to decide at any moment to become a state, giving congress a clear path.
Puerto Rico has no such legal understanding .after the spanish american war puerto Rico was considered a colony with no right to eventually become a state.
So Basically congress does not even have to discuss it!
    IN SHORT
with republicans controlling the house Congress simply doesn’t have to take up the matter at all, even with a referendum in hand. In today’s political climate, the Republican-dominated body won’t feel any pressure to add an island of millions of likely DEMOCRATS to the electorate.

DO YOU REALLY THINK IN A TRUMP WORLD that states, many of which supported Trump, will accept a Spanish-speaking state that will receive just as many Senators and maybe even more House seats than they currently have? fantasy just pure fantasy.
Sorry guys but YO NO CREO QUE VA SER ASI, LOS GRINGOS NO TE QUIEREN!
