The US Holocaust Memorial Museum has withdrawn the honorary human rights medal given to the country's State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi, due to not taking steps to curb torture on Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state.
On Wednesday, the museum authorities said in a letter to the Rohingya people, the museum withdrew the medal due to Suu Kyi's inability to defend the country's army with equal evidence of the massacre.
This museum in Washington, founded in memory of the victims of Nazi atrocities in World War II. Suu Kyi, known as the 'pro-democracy' leader in Myanmar, was awarded the second consecutive Eli Wiesel Medal in 2012.
This medal was named after Eli Wiesel, who survived the Nazi persecution in World War II. He was the first to receive this medal. He spent most of his life in the human rights movement. He won the Nobel Prize in 1986. He was one of the founders of this museum.
In a letter to Suu Kyi, the museum wrote: "We hope you (Suu Kyi) condemn the army torture of Rohingya in 2016 and 2017 and suppress the brutal torture campaign of the army. At the same time, will express solidarity with the Rohingya.
In return, the Suu Kyi Party National League for Democracy refused to assist the United Nations in the investigation of the incident and fueled the activities of Rohingya Even the group prevented journalists from collecting the news.
In November, the Museum and South Asia-based monitoring agency, Fortune Wright, found information from the field of Myanmar, that there has been extensive and organized torture to Rohingya. The decision was made on the basis of this.
