Let's Preach Peace In Nigeria, We Are One

I have heard Nigerians sayings we are Yorubas, Hausas and Igbos and yet the majority of the children in our country can't even speak their native dialect. I hope soon, we will not start having children who will tell their origin in third-party speeches (My father said we are from Kogi state but I do not know anything about Kogi).

If you live in Nigeria, you will know that names have meanings. If you have a name like "Goodluck" you actually know where you will end up, and if a person names her first daughter "patience" then you need no one to tell you what she went through with her husband and in-laws before she had the child.

Nigeria has so many tribes, we speak different native languages, this has been the beauty of this country but are we still planning to grow this country together? I realised that we are good in preaching separation even amongst ourselves. There is this popular Nigerian joke that a bus carrying 10 passengers had an accident on the highway, soon medical and military personnels got to the scene of the accident. Then a policeman asked someone if people died in the accident but the man replied and said nobody died only 2 Gambari died. Now the question is are Gambari are not humans or are they not Nigerians?
Nigerians have now turned themselves to ethnic warriors fighting and killing one another for no just course, this is disheartening. I always thought that politicians were the only ones who use citizens as political dogs and thugs to get what they wanted but it is inevitably clear that even citizens now use themselves to cause havoc in the country, leading to the display of different barbaric acts
I think now more than ever in this country, we need to start preaching peace.

Tribalism has always been the problem of Nigeria ever since the entry of colonialism, independence and till date.

Although no civil war has happened again but really it appears like there is no progress at all.

A change starts with the individual before boiling down to the communal. A lot of people need to have their minds orientated. Steemit is just one good platform for this.

Education also continues to play a great role. It saddens me to see educated individuals still think backwardly.

Quite a brilliant piece @gbenga

What did our past leaders actually fight for? It now looks as if our freedom is a test of our faith

This country is failing in all ramifications. It's embarrassing to see the way we segregate ourselves.
We even stereotype based on tribe.

I believe in one nation and one voice and i hope you believe in that as well

The current political structure of Nigeria is lopsided.
The peace we hanker for, might not be feasible till the country is restructured to reflect the tides of the time.

We need Peace! I stand for Peace.

Thank you for standing for peace. One Nigeria

our leaders have turned the country into a company, everyone of them is only fighting for their selfish interest. As far as I am concerned there's only two tribes in Nigeria, the rich and the poor

It is unfortunate that we want our dear country to be in Peace but there is no unity,it is in Nigeria that you will see two people from the same family will not support themselves in achieving the same aim that will bring Peace and Unity to many except if such decision will favour him/her. If we live in Love and Unity without seggregation, there will surely be Peace in our noble country Nigeria.
Nice post @gbenga

One Nation bound in freedom, peace and unity. Do we uphold this at all

Though our socialists have good plan for this noble country because of their selfless service that is why " One Nation bound in freedom, peace and unity" was included in our anthem, because of the one mind, togetherness and love they have for our dear country Nigeria. But the story is not what it used to be. But when we have a deep thought about this "One Nation bound in freedom, peace and unity" I see Nigeria to be war-free and unity return. It begins with you and i.
Thanks @gbenga for your concern about our father land "Nigeria"

i wonder why the hatred is so much to the extent of killing each other

Killing is one thing I'm tired of hearing. People now form groups just to commit crimes and divide the country

It is only God himself that can decide that it is enough

Do you blame them? Their leaders are bunch of clowns, lovely post man, this is sweet.

Thanks a lot, I hope we all grow a peaceful country together

That's the hard truth some people don't understand. But often times, injustice is what give rise to call to arms

True talk @eurogee, I hope e can grow this country as one great nation

United we stand. Divided we fall. Good post.

Unity is our trademark

That'd the way to survive.

Exactly boss

a united nation full of peace is far better than a resourceful nation full of hatred @nuges

I still very much believe that we can still pact ourselves together but we need more from our leaders.
