What is one dollar? Okay, what is 50 SBD? What can 5$ do in someone life today? Are you privileged? Do you know it? 

The situation in many parts of the world is not as privileged. To many 5$ can do a lot of fixing! And don't be surprised this even applies in developed countries. Many times when it comes to gifts of money, it is more about the timeliness of it. There are times in life when a bag load of $ would mean nothing. 

There are also times when 5$ could mean the world! Steemit has come in the picture to give people round the world the opportunity to earn something for excerpts of their brain. At the very least, everyone has a brain and can exert it or mine with their minds, so to speak for some 5$. Do these tiny 5$ have any impact even today!

It makes me happy that Steemit can "feed" A lot of people. IT also makes me want to make my diet more simple. Because 5.00 a day on food. Sounds like a nice amount to spend.

It's a little surprising that it's enough even in the US, nevertheless in other parts of the world 150$ is the minimum monthly income, so it brings much more than the minimum on the table.
If we look at the daily reward pool (I think it's at around 56k), get it at a monthly level (56K*30=1,680,000), assuming a steem price of 1$ and divide it by 150$/month/person, we could say that Steem(it) can feed 11,200 people. Which is nice because the amount of effort one needs to put into blogging is less than an 8h job plus it's a lot more enjoyable.
